National Science Day Celebrated at Banasthali

Banasthali has a rich tradition of celebrating various days of both national and international importance all round the year. Department of Physics organized the celebrations of Science Day on 24th and 25th February, 2018, with lot of vibrancy, remembering work of the Dr.C.V. Raman for his contribution to the discovery of the Raman effect.

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman had worked from 1907 to 1933 at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata, West Bengal in India during which he had researched on many topics of the Physics from which the Raman Effect (effect on scattering of light when passing through different materials) became his great success and discovery which has been marked in the Indian history. For his big invention he was honored through the various Indian awards including the Nobel Prize in the year 1930. From the year 2013, the “Raman Effect” has been designated as an International Historic Chemical Landmark by The American Chemical Society.

On 24th February 2018 in Presence of Prof P.K. Dubey, Former Head of Department Physics, alumni of P.M.B Gujrati Science College Indore, Prof. G.N. Purohit, Former Dean, AIM & ACT inaugurated the program and motivated the intellectual minds who displayed poster on “Physics” as well as working and non working models giving a practical approach to the event. The poster and model were presented by Shakuntalam school boys, Sharda Mandir school girls as well as graduates and post graduate students. The objective of the event was inculcating scientific innovation in our daily life. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Saral Kumar Gupta.

On 25th February 2018 a scientific talk was organized by students of department over the innovative topics - Gravitational waves and LIGO detectors, How a blind can see, Li- Fi, Hyper loop trains, A world of physics we live in etc. Best presentation prize was awarded to Pooja Choudhary M.sc Physics and Vishakha Tyagi M.sc Physics. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.P.A. Alvi.
