Banasthali School of Earth Sciences Celebrates COSMOS 2017
The evolutionary details of this school starts from Geography department established in 2008 followed by Remote Sensing in 2011 and then after Geology and commissioning of the new building in 2013 followed by Environmental Science in 2016. With state of the art facilities and faculty from lead institutions in India, Banasthali School of Earth Sciences is a hub of over 400 students enrolled in bachelors masters and doctoral programmers in various departments. Befittingly, the annual festival of the School of Earth Sciences is named COSMOS.Three day Fest Cosmos organized by the School of Earth Sciences Banasthali had a grand start on 17 Sep 2017 with Prof Aditya Shastri Vice Chancellor inaugurating by lighting the ceremonial lamp along with Prof Ina Shastri Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Rashmi Sharma Dean School of Earth Sciences and other dignitaries. Cosmos included Technical Exhibition, Rangoli competition, invited lectures by domain experts, cultural Programs, debate and quiz competitions.
Prof T I Khan IGC for Human Ecology Environment and Population Studies, Department of Environmental Science, University of Rajasthan Jaipur gave a talk on 18 Sep 2017 highlighting the Environmental issues in the present day context. Dr Prakash Chauhan, Scientist SG EPSA Space Application Centre ISRO Ahmedabad gave a talk on Indian Planetary Mission.
For Rangoli Ms Stuti Priya Minz bagged First Prize, Ms Pooja Kumari and Ms Renuka Vysas Sharing the Second Prize and Ms Preeti Kumari and Ms Suniti Mishra sharing the Third. For Card Making Competition first prize ent to Ms Gayatri Devi, Second jointly to Ms Shresthi Jaiswal Juhi Sehrawat and Bharti while third went to Ms Pooja Kumari. For Debate, first prize was bagged by Ms Mansi Kesarwani, second by Ms Simran Dahiya and third by Ms Akanksha Rana. The cultural programme saw the very best of dance drama music and mime loaded with inspiring messages.
For Quiz, first prize was bagged by team comprising of Ms Neelam Shrama, Ayushi Maurya, Mitakshi Pathak, Divyanshu Mishra and Richa Singh. Second Prize went to team Ms Deepika Pandey, Smriti Porwal, Poshim Mehrotra and Satvika Jaiswal while the third prize went to team Ms Neelam Sharma, Pooja Kumari, Vishakha Sah, Parul Vats and Salani Joshi.
The students and faculty who attended and participated in COSMOS 2017 left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of an institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women’s universities not only in India today but across the globe.
