5 Things Your Social Media Agency isn’t Telling You

Anyone who has ever used social media understands the impact it has. Marketers also understand this potential and hire professional social media agencies to harness more power from digital channels. A good agency will help its clients achieve their goals, but here’s what no one ever tells you: there are a couple of things agencies are hiding from you!

1. Content is not Sufficient: Social media agencies make money by making content. There is no denying the fact that content is king, but the distribution of content is the queen. What’s the point of investing in good content if it’s not reaching maximum people through social channels? It’s true that good and frequently updated content helps you rank higher in search engines, but it is just as important to adopt strategies and invest time in promoting that content.

With the copious amounts of content that is being shared in the digital world every second, there is a growing attention deficit in the minds of users. Merely viewing or sharing content doesn’t pass off as the right kind of engagement anymore. It is a smart combination of creation and distribution strategies that create influential memories and long-term brand impact.

2. No 100% guarantee of success: Nobody really knows the secret of a business’ social media success. Every business, every campaign is unique with unique target demographics, so there is no predictable pattern of success. A strategy that applies to one may not apply to others. Even the expert with years of insight and experience can’t predict what will work successfully as variables in social media, because, just like the evolution of platforms, audience behavior is frequently changing.

3. Likes and Followers mean nothing: Building a large follower base or getting those likes is considered one of the important milestones. Most agencies capitalize on a companies’ thirst for likes. But what if I told you that the number of likes or followers mean very little for your business if they are ultimately not getting converted? Your success will eventually be measured in terms of the number of conversions. Likes, shares, and retweets can be bought but what ultimately matters is consumer engagement. So, you should be wary of strategies based solely on maximizing following.

4. Data isn’t tell-all: Data is as good as your interpretation of it. Data can’t give you qualitative knowledge about your brand perception. Your agency should actually find smart ways of eliciting deep insights from data that is gathered and audience psycho-graphics. A good agency is one who helps you look beyond data, generate actionable insights and build a strategy based on experience and audience understanding cum requirement.

5. Social Media isn’t the only marketing strategy: Social Media agencies have vested interest in telling you that social media marketing is ‘the’ way to market your brand. It’s true that social media is a great channel to amplify the reach of your content using their paid tools, and it’s a great way to engage customers. But to rely on social media solely for marketing isn’t a great tactic.

As an end note, let me say, always remember that a combination of strategies helps generate awareness, captures the lead, nurture and eventually convert them.

Diverse marketing methods like search and paid search, emails, landing pages and other digital channels can create a balanced mix. Remember, the key is to adopt a diverse and comprehensive digital marketing method! Lastly, it’s always good to ask questions and understand an agency’s plans deeply before launching your campaign!
