Hirschmann MCS – Fit for Competition

The path to the desired product: the order code.

The path to the desired product: the order code.

In its “Fit for Competition” initiative, Hirschmann Mobile Machine Controls Solutions (MCS) is systematically reviewing all of its products. The goal is to use the latest technologies to make them even better while also developing cost-optimized versions that conform to the company’s rigorous standards of quality. Here we look at the fSENS KMD series of tension load cells.

Within the scope of this initiative, a year ago Hirschmann MCS began supplementing its custom solutions by establishing fixed standard definitions for its tension load cells. One advantage of this approach for customers of Hirschmann MCS is that it generates economies of scale in purchasing, thus reducing products’ prices. Another is that it enables considerably faster delivery. Together with the standardization, an extended range of basic versions – 12 are now available – results in a cumulative average price advantage of up to 50 percent.

The measurement range of this product series has also been increased to 240 tonnes, thus covering nearly three orders of magnitude. This expansion of the product portfolio also coincides with the launch of additional product versions. For example, redundant versions with two 4 - 20 mA interfaces and alternative connector types are now available. The benefit: customers of Hirschmann MCS receive exactly the right products to meet their requirements.

The new base bodies of the L Series are optimized to meet standard crane and lifting requirements. They support an upwardly extended tonnage range. For extremely dynamic applications with high peak loads, additional base bodies (of the K Series) with greater overload capacities are available. The high granularity and flexibility of this product series now make it a very simple matter to obtain a tailored and therefore correspondingly price-optimized solution “off the rack”.

Along similar lines as for tension load cells, soon a modular “product kit” will become available for compression force transducers. Here too, the standardization of processes and components will slash both costs and delivery times.

The measurement range of the new series is between one and 70 tonnes. The amplifier is integrated in the housing as a standard feature. Where the interface type is concerned, the same variability is available as for the tension load cells.

A special feature of the new fSENS DKA standard sensors is an optimized design that permits oblique application of force without significantly affecting the accuracy of measurements and, thanks to systematic decoupling, is considerably more tolerant of uneven contact surfaces. With this enhanced product series, Hirschmann MCS is once again demonstrating its innovativeness.
