In India today, Banasthali which is one among the top ranking institution also stands as the world’s largest residential women’s university having more than 16,000 students on its 850-acre campus situated amidst rural setting in Rajasthan and having a distinct educational ideology and offering a variety of programmes from nursery up to doctoral-level across a wide spectrum of disciplines to prepare enlightened citizens with strong value-base.

Banasthali has established a rich tradition of inviting experts in various fields not only from different parts of India but from the world at large on a regular basis for giving lectures on various topics.

On 10 July 2019, Prof Om Prakash Yadav who holds PhD Industrial Engineering from Wayne State University and had been Interim Chair Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at North Dakota State University – NDSU USA visited Banasthali and gave a talk on Importance of Research to the Chemical Engineering faculty. Prof Yadav’s Research interests include Quality and Reliability Engineering; Robust Product / Process Design, Concurrent Engineering; TQM, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Methodologies; Production & Operations Management; Optimization Techniques; Supply-Chain Management; Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks; Quantitative Analysis of Operations Management.

Before joining NDSU, he was a senior reliability engineer at Ford Motor Company and faculty at Malaviya National Institute of Technology - MNIT, Jaipur (India) which is his Alma mater too. He has served as Associate Editor, Guest Editor, and Editorial Board Member of several international journals. He is actively involved in organizing several international level conferences and currently serving as Management Committee member of Reliability & Maintainability Symposium. Dr. Yadav has published over 100 journal and conference paper articles and delivered several invited keynote talks around the world in many international conferences and symposiums. He has conducted several training programs and workshop for professionals in both India and USA. He is a member of American Society of Quality, Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, and Society of Reliability Engineers.

Prof BR Natarajan introduced Prof OM Yadav to the Chemical Engineering Faculty members. Prof Ashok Yadav welcomed the distinguished visitor with a colourful bouquet. Prof Om Yadav was happy to note that 50% of the 12 Chemical Engineering faculty at Banasthali were alumni of various IITs - Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Dhanbad Guwahati and the rest from BITS Pilani and various NITs.

In his thought provoking address, Prof Yadav highlighted the importance of research in Universities, guidelines for publishing papers including choice of journals etc. He was emphatic in stating that while multiple criteria exist for rankings by various agencies like QS World University Rankings and THE - Times Higher Education Rankings, it is the Research and Publication criterion which distinguishes the top order from the rest. Sharing his own experience of publishing a paper in a reputed journal which took two years to appear, Prof Om Yadav said that patience is of utmost importance in Research and said that fly by night academicians have no place.

Prof OP Yadav offered to mentor faculty working in years and pointed out that Chemical Engineering has all along been a highly interdisciplinary area.
