Bruno Greiling shows strong pace in Cheb but faces a difficult DKM weekend
* Two fastest times in Friday practice and a strong start to the race weekend.* From the last starting position to 9th place in the first qualifying race and back into the top 10 in the Superheat.
* Technical issues and an incident through no fault of his own prevent a potential top result.
Muelsen, June 3, 2026. Young racing driver Bruno Greiling experienced a challenging and instructive race weekend at the DKM event in Cheb, Czech Republic. Despite several setbacks, the young driver once again demonstrated his speed, racing intelligence, and remarkable mental resilience. The start of the weekend was promising, but in the end, technical problems and unfortunate racing situations prevented a result that would have been entirely possible given the speed he demonstrated.
Promising Start
As early as Friday, Greiling made an early statement with two fastest times in practice. Saturday also started strong: In the warm-up, he finished 4th and was close to the lead, trailing by just 0.14 seconds. This initially pointed clearly toward a successful weekend.
In qualifying, however, that positive momentum came to an abrupt halt. A defect in the rim caused the rear tire to lose air, making a fast lap impossible. The subsequent disqualification for driving an unclean line was of little sporting significance, as the time result had already been lost by that point.
Strong Comebacks
In the first qualifying race, Greiling then demonstrated his true class. Starting from 29th--and thus last--position, he worked his way up to 9th place with high speed and excellent situational awareness. That was one of the most impressive maneuvers of the weekend and a clear sign of his speed.
In the second qualifying race, the comeback was then cut short. On his way forward, Bruno was involved in an accident through no fault of his own and had to retire. Saturday thus ended well below expectations, even though his performance on the track was very strong for long stretches.
Top 10 Despite Setbacks
On Sunday, Greiling once again showed resilience. Starting from 19th on the grid in the Superheat, he drove his way up to 9th place, securing the 11th starting position for the final. From there, a lot would still have been possible in terms of racing.
But the next technical setback struck as early as the formation lap of the final: a small component on the engine failed, ending all hopes even before the race had officially started. This was particularly bitter for Bruno Greiling and his team because neither the rider nor the crew was to blame. That is precisely why, in the end, the focus was less on the result and more on the way the weekend was handled despite all the problems.
Recognition for the Speed
Despite the disappointing ending, what sticks in the mind above all is the sporting substance of the weekend. Greiling made by far the most overtakes on the track, made it to the final from 11th on the grid despite not having a regular qualifying result, and once again demonstrated just how much talent and fighting spirit he possesses.
The media representatives on site also clearly noted the young driver's speed. A video of his fast practice lap was even used for the track presentation, and Greiling was invited to visit the commentary booth. This was additional praise for his performance and another sign of how strong he was this weekend.
Quote from Bruno Greiling:
"This was a weekend that will certainly help us move forward as a team, even if the final result is bitter. We had very good speed on Friday and during the warm-up, and in the race I was able to show what might have been possible. The first heat was particularly strong, and I also put in another solid performance in the Superheat. Unfortunately, technical issues and an accident that wasn't our fault robbed us of the chance for a top result. That makes it all the more important that we know: the speed is there."
"A big thank you goes out to my team for their hard work and to everyone who supported me this weekend. The next stop is Ampfing, where we'll be back on the attack."
