BPM software: CIB seven 2.0 comes with improved user interface and LTS option
Munich, May 13, 2025 - CIB, the Munich-based software company specializing in process automation, has released version 2.0 of CIB seven, the powerful platform for business process management (BPM). As an open-source fork, CIB seven 2.0 replaces Camunda 7.23, introducing three significant innovations. CIB is now integrating three proven interface modules into CIB seven in the form of "Tasklist", "Cockpit" and "Admin" from the company's own BPM solution CIB flow, which were previously available for a fee. In addition to the free community version, the "Community+" and "LTS" support packages are now available. CIB has also announced that it will be launching an enterprise version with all the features familiar from Camunda 7 EE by the end of the year. The prices for all the aforementioned services are set, enabling organisations that wish to use CIB seven to plan accordingly. With CIB seven 2.0, CIB is making central components of CIB flow available under open source conditions (Apache 2.0 license) for the first time. The new modules replace the previous Camunda 7-based modules within CIB seven. Although these are still delivered with release 2.0, they are marked as "deprecated". In October 2025, after the release of Camunda 7.24, CIB will announce when the old components will no longer be provided.
From a technological perspective, the new CIB seven interfaces also mark the end of the outdated AngularJS technology.
CIB Managing Director Georg Hatzelmann categorizes this step as follows: "The fact that we are now making self-developed components open source shows that we are serious about our commitment to CIB seven. As of today, there are three more reasons to switch from Camunda 7 to CIB seven and not even consider Camunda 8 or alternatives."
From the user's perspective: What are the key benefits of CIB seven over Camunda 7?
The new Tasklist allows users to process tasks from ongoing business processes efficiently. Compared to Camunda's previous solution (version 7.23), CIB flow's Tasklist offers a much more modern user interface that appeals to a wider audience.
The new Cockpit provides comprehensive options for monitoring and analyzing business processes. While the Camunda 7.23 cockpit focuses primarily on technical details, the CIB flow Cockpit relies on a clear, dashboard-based display. Process flows are presented visually and deviations can be intuitively identified and rectified. This makes it much easier for operations and support teams to monitor and optimize processes.
The new Admin component makes user and rights management in CIB seven much more convenient. The administration interface of Camunda 7.23 is functional, but not very intuitive. The solution adopted from CIB flow integrates users, groups and rights management in a modern interface and enables many administrative tasks as self-service for specialist departments. This significantly reduces the workload for IT administrators.
CIB seven is the alternative to Camunda 7 and 8
This further development underlines CIB's goal of offering companies a long-term maintainable, open-source alternative to the previous Camunda 7 product line with the Camunda 7 fork CIB seven. At the same time, companies that want to continue to rely on proven BPM technology are offered a stable perspective - regardless of the new product strategies surrounding Camunda 8, which could entail high migration costs for customers.
CIB seven not only offers the usual stability and investment security for existing Camunda 7 projects, but also extends the range of functions with modern web technology. Existing projects can be seamlessly transferred. CIB supports users with migration tools and comprehensive documentation, without vendor lock-in or proprietary restrictions.
Organizations can now plan perfectly
In addition, companies and public authorities can now receive security updates, long-term support (LTS) and a fully-fledged enterprise version with all the features known from Camunda 7 EE faster than users of the community version for a fee.
CIB has put together three versions with a different scope of services and a very simple pricing system: "Community+", "LTS" and "Enterprise". The license costs are calculated based on two parameters: the selected version and usage. These are easy to determine in any company.
