CIB seven and CIB flow BPM Platform

CIB seven and CIB flow BPM Platform

(Munich, 19.09.2024) CIB, the Munich-based software company specialising in process automation, is helping users of the BPM solution Camunda 7 Community Edition, which will be discontinued in 2025, to protect their investments. CIB seven is an open-source fork that guarantees long-term operation, support, updates, patches and further development of the open-source engine. They will not incur any migration costs.

Camunda's announcement that the free Community Edition of the Camunda BPM Engine will be discontinued as of November 2025 has understandably caused concern and irritation among users. However, there is now a solution: the Munich-based software manufacturer and automation expert CIB will take over further development under the name CIB seven. The open source community now has a free, reliable and future-proof alternative.

Those who have integrated the BPM engine as an embedded engine in their own applications now face another challenge. Camunda 8 does not currently support this application scenario. CIB seven will preserve this application scenario and protect your investment.

CIB seven: open source, permanently on-premises, in the cloud

The CIB seven open source fork will continue to provide support and maintenance after 2025. This means users can continue using their systems. CIB seven is fully compatible with Camunda 7, allowing users to upgrade to Camunda 8 with complete confidence.

CIB founder Ulrich Brandner states, "Many users have invested significant time and resources to extend or integrate Camunda 7 to meet their specific needs. CIB seven protects these investments. Our solution also meets the needs of those who want to take their time and keep their options open."

Intelligent workflows based on AI with CIB seven

But it's not just maintenance and support that are secured beyond 2025. CIB seven will be equipped with new functionalities and developed further as a platform for intelligent, AI-supported processes.

"CIB will fix bugs that are of great importance to our customers in the community even before the release of CIB seven. This is our contribution to strengthening the open source concept and engaging in the community", states CEO Georg Hatzelmann.

CIB seven is also the foundation for our premium, paid low-code BPM platform, CIB flow. This makes it simple for businesses to digitise their processes. CIB flow includes more than 200 intelligent standard functions and value-added solutions, significantly extending the basic functions known from Camunda 7. The efficient BPM solution offers many additional benefits, but is not a prerequisite for using CIB seven.

The open source fork CIB seven will be available in the first quarter of 2025.
