ISPO world congress: research project received award for best presentation

Ottobock presented itself at this year's ISPO world congress in Hyderabad (India). Under the motto "Your Partner in Education", a total of 65 employees from Germany and Asia put up the booth, which, at almost 300 square metres, was one of the biggest of the industrial exhibition and demonstrated almost the entire current product portfolio. Highlights were the presentations of the Genium prosthetic knee joint and the C-Brace® orthotronic mobility system; additionally, several international demo users presented more products. At this congress, Ottobock experts gave presentations in front of an international audience.

The world congress of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) takes place every three years – and for the first time ever, the congress, lasting from the 4th to the 7th of February 2013, took place in Asia, namely in Hyderabad. The four-day event is a scientific congress with included industrial exhibition. More than 1,800 participants from 85 countries participated in this event; the ISPO has more than 3,000 members located in almost 100 countries.

On the last day of the congress, Dr. Raoul Bongers received an award for the presentation of the results of a joint research project of the Medical Faculty of the University of Groningen (UMCG) and Ottobock. The research project funded by Ottobock performs research in the field of motor learning processes in the brain. Objective of the same is to develop a training programme with which arm amputees can learn how to use their prosthesis even better and more effectively to achieve greater autonomy and independence in everyday life. The scientific committee of the ISPO was so persuaded by the importance and results of the project that it awarded Dr. Raoul Bongers with the prize for the best presentation (Best Free Paper Prize) in the category "Advancement of Clinical Treatment".

Christin Gunkel, Ottobock's Chief Marketing Officer, was highly satisfied with the development of the 13th ISPO world congress: "Ottobock presented itself as a global company with strong ties to the Asian market, particularly India, and a clear understanding of the regional requirements." In particular, Christin Gunkel emphasised the connection between the needs of the local market and the high-tech solutions for which Ottobock stands.
