National Science Day at JMA Pilani Rajasthan

Hometown to the Birla family, Pilani in the heart of Shekhawati region of Rajasthan is well known in India today for various educational institutions, CSIR Laboratory CEERI as well as the upcoming BrahMos Missile Assembly Project unit.

Established in the year 2004 Smt Jamuna Mishra Academy – JMA which has been making rapid strides in early childhood education is presently one among the top ranking schools at Pilani Rajasthan. JMA which started with an enrollment of 60 students for the Nursery, LKG, First Junior and Class1 has grown today till Class VIII with well over 500 students presently.

To popularize the benefits of scientific knowledge, 28th February is celebrated all over India as National Science Day – NSD to mark the discovery of Nobel Prize winning Raman Effect by the great Indian Physicist Sir C. V. Raman in 1928 on same day. The theme for 2012 is “Clean Energy Options and Nuclear Safety.” Celebration of NSD in schools undoubtedly helps inculcate the much desired scientific temper among children.

JMA celebrated NSD on 28 Feb 2012 with a talk by Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan and Science Teacher Mrs Sangeeta Jangir. The Principal highlighting the importance and significance of the day, reiterated the Prime Minister of India Shri Manmohan Singh’s now famous statement that China is well ahead of India in science and urged the students to take up the challenge of forging India ahead in Science in the global arena.

For the four houses of the school namely Jupiter, Mercury, Neptune and Venus, quiz competitions were held in which students from Class 5-8 enthusiastically participated and the Venus house emerged as winners. The quiz was conducted by Mrs Sangeeta Jangir along with Miss Lakshmi Saini and Mrs Alka Sharma.

The students of Class 5-8 also demonstrated various science models made by them. The science exhibition was inaugurated by Shri K C Dubey who is the Principal of the well known Pilani School Hari Devi Jhutha Ram Shishu Sadan – HJSS. Shri Dubey commended the students for the excellent set of models depicting various scientific phenomena and gave away the prizes for various competitions. The model put up by a girl student of Class 8 on hemodialysis was highly appreciated by one and all.
