Pilani Rajasthan Jamuna Mishra Academy - JMA Pilani Celebrates World Health Day 2011

World Health Day marks the founding of the WHO on April 7, 1948 and is an occasion to raise awareness of key global health issues. The theme for this year is “Anti Microbial Resistance (AMR) – No Action Today No Cure Tomorrow”.

Established in the year 2004 JMA which has been making rapid strides in early childhood education is presently one among the top ranking and most sought after schools at Pilani Rajasthan. Located in the heart of Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, Pilani is well known for various educational institutions, CSIR Laboratory CEERI as well as the upcoming BrahMos Missile Assembly Project unit.

A noteworthy fact is that the girl student enrollment has been steadily rising every year in JMA and is presently close to 50% of total strength which itself is a matter of pride in a state which had alarmingly low record of girl’s education. The teacher strength at JMA also has grown from 5 in 2004 to 21 presently.

JMA which started in 2004 with an enrollment of 60 students for the Nursery, LKG, First Junior and Class1 has grown today till Class VIII with well over 8 times the enrollment. It is a matter of pride that this year over a hundred new children have taken admissions to JMA which itself is a record for the school. The Principal and her team of teachers firmly believe in making delivery of quality education speak the brand image of JMA instead of flooding the marketplace with colourful brochures and pamphlets.

JMA has a rich tradition of celebrating various events of national and international importance. The School is also well known for conducting the annual medical checkups for all children with the help of leading medical practitioners of Pilani who include Dr RP Pareek, Dr Alok Tyagi and Dr Anil Garssa.

On the occasion of World Health Day on April 7, 2011 addressing the students and teachers of JMA, the Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan highlighted the various issues pertaining to anti microbial resistance including emergence and implication of superbugs.

Pointing out that AMR can be due to reasons such as inappropriate use of medicine, taking substandard doses or by not finishing a prescribed course of treatment, use of low-quality medicine, wrong prescriptions etc; Mrs Natarajan urged them to ensure that medicines beyond expiry date are duly destroyed and avoid excessive use of antibiotics.
