About Cellulite Massage Therapy
Cellulite, that cottage cheese dimply stuff that can accumulate on thighs, buttocks, stomach and arms, seems to target only the female species. It is estrogen dominant and begins to appear on the onset of puberty in many women. Another contributing factor is hormone-laden foods, such as dairy. The fat cells have a tendency to swell and small capillaries weaken and leak water into the fatty areas. The areas harden and thicken over time and layers of cellulite can run deep, all the way down to the muscle with a root system. The areas need an aggressive approach in order to reach the farthest sub dermal layers. Tissue needs to be approached quite aggressively, lotions and creams are gadgets to temporarily shrink surface tissue, but can’t begin to attack the deeper layers. Plastic surgeons are using machines that pinch, roll and heat the fat, but they still don’t go as deep as the manual techniques that Astrid uses. In fact, Astrid currently performs cellulite massage on two of the most prominent technicians in Los Angeles; they know her work outperforms their expensive machines. Her massages are a one-hour session in which she uses a sculpting tool along with manual techniques. She goes as deep as the client can handle, as cellulite doesn’t go away without damaging it and breaking it up. This causes bruising, and in the case of cellulite, this is a positive thing. The tissue suffers damage and the old unhealthy tissue is broken down and the body gets to repair the area with a fresh structure. You can’t get it all out in one session, so a series of ten is recommended. This work also stimulates collagen and flushes the lymphatic system. The first three sessions tend to be the most painful, after this the tissue begins to take on a new shape and pain receptors change. By session four or five, the patient can relax, and she is able to access deeper layers. The results are amazing, as the consistency and the shape of the fatty areas begin to smooth out.
