Certified: Raytheon Anschütz Environmental Protection Program

Raytheon Anschütz has recently been certified by the German Lloyd for its environmental management system (EMS) according to the rules of ISO 14001-2004. The EMS was not only established to follow legal requirements and save energy costs but also to support the company’s efforts of going green during the past years.

With the implementation of its new environmental management system, Raytheon Anschütz has adapted the principles of a responsible handling with energy and the preservation of natural resources to all its processes. The whole program was accompanied by an internal campaign to sensitize and educate all employees of Raytheon Anschütz.

The main achievement of the new EMS is a sustainable reduction of energy use, emissions, and waste in daily working life. Therefore, the company has defined a task list for continuous improvement to optimize their processes with regard to a more efficient handling with water, electricity and waste. The task list contains key figures, which are monitored and revised in an “environmental cockpit” on a regular basis.

Further achievements cover for example the definition of higher efficiency in certain company processes, technical check-ups of the machinery, the storage of hazardous substances, and improved fire protection.

The implemented EMS is based on the company’s policy of sustainable environmental protection. Prior to this certification, the company has already been compliant with the RoHS and REACH requirements, even if it is not yet defined, that there is a need for navigation systems built-in on a ship to comply with the rules. Furthermore, the development of eco-friendly products such as the fuel-saving autopilot NP2025plus is considered as one of the most important contributions to the reduction of emissions in worldwide shipping.

At Raytheon Anschütz, the environmental management is part of an Integrated Management System (IMS), which also contains the company’s quality management according to ISO 9001-2008 and the industrial health and safety management according to OHSAS 18001. The IMS enables Raytheon Anschütz to have an integrated view on all the processes, thus being able to take all related requirements in all decisions made into account.

Raytheon Anschütz GmbH is a subsidiary of the Raytheon Company (Waltham, USA) and a part of the Integrated Defense Systems division (Tewksbury, USA). The company was founded in 1905 as Anschütz & Co in Kiel, where today all of the essential components for safe ship navigation are developed, produced, and meticulously tested. Raytheon Anschütz is one of the leading suppliers of Integrated Bridge and Navigation Systems for all kinds of commercial vessels, naval ships and mega yachts. The company employs more than 500 people and maintains a worldwide service network with more than 200 service stations.
