Press release from: TeleMental Health Institute Inc.

08 March, 2018, San Diego, CA. Telebehavioral Health Institute (TBHI) is pleased to announce its partnership with The Soldiers Project to bring telemental and telebehavioral health to healing the hidden wounds of war. This group of professionals can enjoy the many benefits of learning and networking through TBHI, an online learning institute devoted to the education and training of professionals wishing to develop the legal, ethical and clinical skills related to working with technology in behavioral health. For starters, the Soldiers Project will be making TBHI professional online training available to its providers at a 20% discount.

The Executive Director of the Telebehavioral Health Institute, Dr. Marlene Maheu said, “TBHI is delighted to have partnered with The Soldier’s Project because of its progressive focus on training professionals in best practices related to using telehealth technologies.” A pioneer researcher and trainer in the field of telebehavioral health, Dr. Maheu added, “We all know that U.S. healthcare is broken. This problem only gets exacerbated by clinicians who cannot find needed clinical training to use the most basic of technologies. They may know where to find and download video conferencing software, text messages or an app, but most of them don’t know how to adhere to basic legal and ethical requirements when using technology in clinical care.” She continued, “ According to the Institute of Medicine, workforce development focused on competencies is a priority for all healthcare disciplines in the U.S. At the professional level with practitioners using technology then, competency-focused training is especially important.”

Dr. Maheu added, “TBHI is proud to be the first telehealth training organization to offer competency-based, telehealth best practice training, both online and in person via workshops. My colleagues and I published the first set of telebehavioral / telemental health competencies ever offered to the professional community (Maheu et. al, 2017). We are delighted to accommodate the special interests of The Soldier’s Project members who want to learn how these competencies can be quickly and easily applied. We greatly look forward to working with The Soldiers Project professionals.”

Michael McDowell, Executive Director at The Soldiers Project said “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with TBHI as we continuously seek to innovate treatment models in the veteran mental health field. As we continue to grow our organization, these technologies will become more essential in increasing the reach of our providers to serve more veterans and their family members in areas far from existing VA services.”
