Text Therapy Online Training: CSWA Policy & Practice Director Joins TBHI
1 August 2019, San Diego, CA — Telebehavioral Health Institute, LLC (TBHI) announces that Clinical Social Work Association (CSWA) Policy and Practice Director, Laura W. Groshong, AM, LICSW, is joining Marlene Maheu, PhD in TBHI’s “Are You Practicing Text Therapy? Telehealth Legal/Ethical Requirements” to describe text therapy and competencies for legal and ethical mandates. The event will be held on September 5, 2019 at 2 pm Eastern time and is hosted through telehealth.org. While explaining the specific focus of her discussion with her guest, Dr. Maheu added,“ Many professionals haven’t fully considered the many serious implications of exchanging text messages with clients or patients. In this hour, the pivotal topics of clinical efficacy and risk management will be examined to help clinicians make responsible decisions regarding the use of texting in their clinical services.”
Dr. Maheu continued, “Issues to be explored will include the different types of text messaging platforms, and how to decide which ones foster compliance with legal and ethical mandates. We will help the participants identify ways in which text therapy may lead to undue exposure to risk, and how to handle the ensuing dilemmas in a clinical relationship.”
