Proud Banasthalites firmly believe in “Make Your Alma mater Banasthali Your Valentine”

One question Universities commonly ask themselves is how to keep alumni involved and get them to give back. In order for Universities to accomplish these goals, it is important for them to reach out and stay connected with their alumni. With social media outlets now the most popular way to reach people, gone are the days of Universities using print newsletters and magazines.

If you find that Universities reach out to their alumni on Valentine day with “Luv Ya, Miss U, A Gift 4 U, Thx4evrything” messages, they indeed mean it. Alumni Relations should ensure that the alumni are convinced that their donations are deployed for scholarships, vital equipment, library, student activities etc.

Alumni often forget that their time is valuable and can be almost as important as any donation they make to their Alma maters. Human capital is just as beneficial to the sustained vitality of a university and can be just as important, if not more, than purely financial support. Alumni can offer to mentor current students, volunteer to speak at events, share experiences, arrange internship opportunities, placement help, engage with Alma mater on social media, fill out alumni surveys, continue rapport with clubs at Alma mater, counsel prospective students.

While the ivy league institutions Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, UCLA, Purdue, MIT INSEAD, LSE, etc are well known for their high degree of alumni Alma mater connectivity, some of the high profile examples of alumni connectivity with Alma mater in India include Birla Institute of Technology and Science - BITS Pilani, ISB, Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIM Ahmadabad, Banasthali etc.

While other institutions are highly male dominated ones, Banasthali happens to be the World’s largest fully residential women’s University. The annual reunion of alumni at Banasthali aptly called Dhamaal brings not a handful or a busfull of alumni but a whole caravan of hundreds of them. Peaking with PQ Passion Quotient for their Alma mater Banasthali, proud Banasthalites keep lifelong connectivity with the institution. The number of Facebook and Whatsapp groups Banasthali alumni have is bound to enter Guinness Record sooner or later.

Dr Anu Brookins who did her schooling from Banasthali has recently contributed USD 5001 for installing a scholarship in the name of her mother Smt Sudha Narayanan who was a founding pillar of the Home Science Department of Banasthali and another in her own name Anupama Narayanan. As per the scheme of this scholarship, the topper of BSc Home Science every year would get Rs 10,000/- and the topper from Banasthali School who had taken up Mathematics would get Rs 5000/-.

Beaming with pride Dr Anu Brookins conveyed “When I give back to my Alma mater, I get a sense of satisfaction in knowing that I am furthering the aims of the institution that did so much to educate me and gave me a better life. Feeling so honored to be recognized by the first place where the foundation of my education was created! It taught me that being a woman was no reason to stop myself from aiming for the sky! It's a place dedicated to educating women and providing them a well-rounded educational experience. Thank you Banasthali!!”. Dr Anu Brookins who visited Banasthali in Dec 2017 has also taken the offer of being an Adjunct Professor for her Alma mater.

Institutions whose alumni have made their Alma mater as their valentine have indeed risen to towering heights.
