In addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, Biology has become the fourth pillar for all branches of engineering resulting in new fields like biochemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biomechanical engineering, bioinformatics, nanobiotechnology, bionanotechnology.

It is indeed a matter of pride that the department of Bioscience and Biotechnology at Banasthali has been instrumental in the rapid academic and research growth of Banasthali. Under Life Sciences, apart from doctoral programmes, the degrees offered include BTech / MTech Biotechnology, BSc Botany / Zoology / Biotechnology, MSc Biotechnology, MSc Bioscience, MSc Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, MTech / MSc Bioinformatics. Presently the Shri Radha Kissen Kanoria Centre for Advanced Studies in Bioscience and Biotechnology is housed in state of the art building Jeev Mandir.

Considering the emergence of biotechnology as a field to reckon with, the department has organized a national conference on Basic biology is the Core of Biotechnology NCBBCB 2017 during 30 – 31 Oct 2017. Member of Standing Committee by Ministry of Science & Technology for promoting women in science, Former Professor at AIIMS New Delhi Well known Biophysicist Prof TP Singh whose Research Interests include Structural Biology; Biological Crystallography, Protein Structure Determination and Peptide Design; Rational Structure based drug design was the Chief Guest for inauguration. Prof P K Gupta whose research interests include Cytogenetics, plant breeding, plant molecular biology & crop biotechnology Hon. Emeritus Professor & INSA Senior Scientist, Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding, Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut was the guest of honour.

Following the lamp lighting by the dignitaries, Prof. Vinay Sharma Dean, Faculty of Science & Technology in his welcome address gave an overview of the conference theme. Prof PK Gupta gave a chronological evolution of the biotechnology field highlighting various milestones including the status of use of GM seeds in India. Prof TP Singh congratulated the Vice Chancellor Prof Aditya Shastri and Team Banasthali for being in the foremost of nongovernmental educational institutions in empowering women through education not only in science but also technology and management. Prof Chitra Purohit Presiodent Banasthali reiterated the commitment of the Institution for providing the very best of educational opportunities to women.

Dr Nilima Kumari of Banasthali Biotech anchored the proceedings while Dr Nidhi Srivastava proposed vote of thanks. The inauguration included release of conference proceedings by the dignitaries and presentation of mementos to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. Proceedings in the 5 sessions spread over two days include key note address and invited talks as well as oral / poster presentations covering Microbial Science, Plant Science and Animal Science.
