Inauguration of Faculty Development Program on Internet of Things IoT for Smart Living at Banasthali

When devices / objects can represent themselves digitally, they can be controlled from anywhere. The connectivity then helps to capture more data from more places, ensuring more ways of increasing efficiency and improving safety and security.

In a nutshell, Internet of Things IoT can connect devices embedded in various systems to the internet. By contributing new things to biotechnology, manufacturing, agriculture, home living and every aspect of daily lives, IoT can disrupt traditional industries and business world and transform cities as well as contribute to the autonomous transport of the future.

It is indeed a matter of pride that Banasthali which is a centre for Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching PMMMNMTT (under MHRD Govt of India) has organized a weeklong Faculty Development Programme during 28 Aug 2017 to 03 Sep 2017. The programme had a grand takeoff on 28 Aug 2017 at CMS Auditorium of Banasthali Vidyapith with lamp lighting by dignitaries and rendering of a melodious devotional song by a group of Banasthali students. Prof Sarla Pareek Dean at Banasthali welcomed the dignitaries and participants. Prof G N Purohit gave an overview of the evolution of Banasthali from Pathshala in 1935 to present VishwaVidyalaya.

Prof US Tiwary Dean Human Affairs from IIIT Allahabad did an anatomy and surgery of IoT and urged the participants to take the fruits of technology to the masses for the larger task of nation building. Prof BR Natarajan from Banasthali pointed out that while technology has been enriching the 30% urban, the 70% rural poor who mostly depended on agriculture continued to be deprived of same. He also said that while first green revolution was based on land, chemicals and water, the second green revolution would be based on data, digital technologies and drones with focus on delivering real time market information; technology enabled advisory, supply chain and insurance; as well as precision farming using GPS, GIS and IoT.

With experts from various lead academic institutions and industry conducting various sessions, the programme will focus on all aspects of IoT including components, technologies, products, applications, consumer usage and societal impact and enrich the participants.
