New medical equipment at Center for Hyperthermia in Hannover -improved technology makes hyperthermia treatment of prostate cancer even easier

Patients at the Center for Hyperthermia in Hannover can take advantage of the new medical technology from the middle of August. It is now possible to make loco-regional hyperthermia even more accurate than in the past. Especially prostate disease and prostate carcinomas can be effectively treated using this method. The specific location is overheated, “which damages the diseased tissue,” explains Dr. Wolf, “and at the same time strengthens the immune system.” The specialist physician has been running his clinic in Hannover for over 20 years, focussing on complementary oncology.

During hyperthermia treatment of the prostate gland, which takes from 60 to 90 minutes, the patient lies comfortably on a pleasantly warm water bed. After local anesthesia has been administered, a miniature transmitter probe is introduced via a catheter into the urethra so that it is exactly in the prostate gland. Depending on the desired point of focus, the receiver required for this type of radio frequency technology is located either like a small cushion in the bed or in a kind of belt around the patient’s pelvis. Thanks to this exact positioning, only the prostate gland is overheated while the probe itself remains cool. The thicker the tissue of the diseased prostate gland is, the more it heats up.

The surrounding tissue is not affected. This method does not use microwaves or rays of any kind but rather exactly controllable short waves. This enables high temperatures between 48 and 52º C to be reached, which can be individually adjusted. Contrary to radiative heating, which comes from microwaves, the treatment with these radio frequency waves create heat focussed on a specific point. No tedious cooling of the rectum is necessary. The so-called radio frequency conductive oncothermia treatment increases the temperature at the exact location of the tumor because the tumor tissue conducts the waves better than healthy tissue. “This is what makes loco-regional hyperthermia so extraordinarily effective,” says Dr. Wolf.

The overheating causes the prostate carcinoma to die, after which it is then broken down by the body’s own mechanisms. In addition, it also relaxes the prostate musculature. “This considerably improves the conditions for passing urine,” adds Dr. Wolf.

Unlike operations or chemotherapy there are no side effects from loco-regional hyperthermia, and full anesthesia is not necessary. The treatment is done on an out-patient basis; that means that the patient can go home immediately afterwards. For most patients two to three treatments are sufficient to destroy the cancer tissue.

The outpatient clinic opened in 1983 in Oskar-Winter-Str. 9 in Hanover. The concept of holistic medicine provided the model for the office: a salutary synthesis of traditional medicine with naturopathic treatments and homeopathy. The whole person has formed the focus of Dr. Peter Wolf medical activity since that time.

Homeopathy, psychotherapy, acupuncture and biological cancer treatment are all therapies which make body, mind and spirit the focal point of the conflict between health and illness. Four years ago, the department of Biological Cancer Treatment was completed by two modern fever therapy (hyperthermia) treatments: whole body hyperthermia and locoregional hyperthermia.

Our entire program of treatments is available in our premises since 2003.

Fever is not an illness. Fever is a natural and vital defence reaction against disease-causing agents. A fever eliminates the pathogens, accelerates metabolic procedures and stimulates detoxification of the body. When a patient has cancer, however, the body is not capable of producing a fever. This is the starting point for Dr. med. Peter Wolf's therapeutic hyperthermia (= overheating). For over 20 years the specialist physician has been running his clinic
