The Promise, the testimony of Prince Antoine V of Araucania

The Promise, the testimony of Prince Antoine V of Araucania

NEW YORK - August 25, 2026 - The English edition of The Promise, the autobiography and personal testimony of Laurent Lafayne, known as Prince Antoine V of Araucania, has been published exclusively on Amazon, making his account available to an international English-speaking readership.

First published in April 2026 in French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and German, The Promise recounts Lafayne's personal journey and the events surrounding his election as Prince Antoine V of Araucania on May 12, 2025.
A central part of the autobiography is Lafayne's discovery of the history of Orélie-Antoine de Tounens, the French lawyer who travelled to South America in the 19th century and became associated with the historical Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia and the Mapuche people. Lafayne describes himself as a distant relative of Orélie-Antoine de Tounens, giving a personal dimension to his interest in this history.
This family connection became the starting point for a broader journey linking France with southern Chile and the Mapuche world. In The Promise, Lafayne recounts his experiences in Wallmapu, his encounters with Mapuche representatives and communities, and the experiences that influenced his understanding of Araucania, Patagonia and Mapuche cultural heritage.
Wallmapu, a Mapuche term referring to their ancestral territory across parts of present-day Chile and Argentina, occupies an important place in the narrative.
Through travel, personal encounters and personal reflection, Lafayne explores Mapuche history and cultural heritage alongside the history associated with the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia.
Combining autobiography, personal testimony, historical background and travel narrative, The Promise presents Lafayne's perspective on Orélie-Antoine de Tounens, the historical Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia, and the relationship he describes between the Araucanian royal tradition and the Mapuche world.

The book also examines the historical connection between France, Araucania and Patagonia. Born in France in 1825, Orélie-Antoine de Tounens travelled to South America, where he became a notable figure in the history associated with Araucania and Patagonia and the Mapuche people.
Following the publication of earlier editions in five languages, the English edition of The Promise extends the autobiography to a wider international readership.

It is available exclusively through Amazon in digital and print formats.
