The Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia announces the 2026 edition of Kingdoms in Exile & Human Rights, an international cultural and humanitarian event dedicated to monarchies in exile, sovereignty beyond borders, and the defence of human rights.
This year's programme highlights two emblematic locations of Bath's heritage: Fairfield House, a major site of imperial Ethiopian exile, and the Pump Room (Searcys), a landmark of Georgian tradition.
The event also explores the institutional parallels between the Ethiopian imperial tradition and the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia, two monarchies shaped by exile and committed to cultural continuity and humanitarian engagement.

Saturday 19 September - Fairfield House: Exile, Sovereignty and Historical Continuity
The event opens at Fairfield House, the residence where Emperor Haile Selassie I lived during his exile.
Recognised as one of the most significant places in the United Kingdom for understanding sovereignty in exile, Fairfield House embodies the challenges faced by monarchies operating outside their original territories.
Its history echoes the institutional trajectory of the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia, which also maintains a cultural and humanitarian mission despite the absence of territorial authority.
The programme includes an official ceremony, a traditional Ethiopian lunch, and conferences on sovereignty in exile, examining how monarchies without territory preserve legitimacy, identity, and cultural heritage.
Fairfield House thus becomes a central reference point for understanding the shared realities of exiled monarchies, from Ethiopia to Araucania‐Patagonia.

Sunday 20 September - The Pump Room: Tradition, Heritage and Cultural Diplomacy
The second day takes place at the renowned Pump Room (Searcys), one of Bath's most iconic Georgian venues.
Participants will experience the traditional afternoon tea, a refined setting for discussions on the contemporary role of monarchies in exile in cultural diplomacy, humanitarian engagement, and the defence of the rights of peoples.
This moment highlights how historical institutions without territorial power - such as the Ethiopian imperial legacy and the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia - continue to contribute to international dialogue on human rights, identity, and cultural preservation.
