Royal House of Araucania and Patagonia and Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem Sign Treaty of Friendship and Mutual Recognition to Advance Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Heritage Preservation

13 June 2026, PARIS, France - The Royal House of Araucania and Patagonia and the Grand West Maritime Priory of the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem are pleased to announce the signing of a Treaty of Friendship and Mutual Recognition, concluded on 7 May 2026 by His Royal Highness Prince Antoine V, Head of the Royal House of Araucania and Patagonia, and His Excellency Paul Wassilieff d'Espalungue d'Arros, Maritime Prior of the Grand West.
The treaty marks a significant milestone in the relationship between the Royal House of Araucania and Patagonia and the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, two institutions united by their commitment to humanitarian service, international solidarity, fraternity, respect for human dignity and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage.
Under the agreement, both institutions will strengthen cooperation in the fields of humanitarian action, charitable initiatives, cultural heritage preservation, historical memory and patrimonial projects. The treaty establishes a framework for joint initiatives dedicated to serving vulnerable communities and promoting the transmission of historical legacies and shared values.
The agreement also reflects a common commitment to safeguarding cultural identities and historical traditions. In this context, the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem has expressed its interest in and support for the initiatives undertaken by the Royal House of Araucania and Patagonia in favour of the Mapuche people, including the preservation of their cultural identity and the promotion of their dignity and fundamental rights.
As part of the treaty, His Royal Highness Prince Antoine V has been recognised as Honorary Prior of the Grand West Maritime Priory and appointed, jointly with His Illustrious Highness Prince Vladimir Vladimirovich Bariatinsky, to the High Patronage of this jurisdiction of the Order of Saint Lazarus.
"This treaty reflects a relationship of mutual trust and a shared vision of service founded upon humanitarian commitment, fraternal cooperation and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage. It opens a new chapter of collaboration dedicated to the common good and to the service of those most in need," the representatives of both institutions stated.
The Royal House of Araucania and Patagonia and the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem welcome this new stage in their relations and reaffirm their determination to develop long-term partnerships dedicated to humanitarian action, cultural diplomacy, international solidarity, historical memory and heritage preservation.
