Capital gap: How female founders start successfully despite less access to investors

Berlin, 28.11.2025 - Women who want to start a business in Germany continue to face significant structural hurdles. The Female Founders Monitor 2025 by the Startup Association and the Bertelsmann Stiftung shows that the proportion of female founders has fallen for the first time in years and currently stands at just 18.8 percent. At the same time, the report confirms that female-led startups are less likely to gain access to capital and more likely to have difficulties scaling their business models. Despite their high innovative strength and economic potential, many female founders therefore remain at a disadvantage in the competition for funding and visibility.

The problem is usually not the business idea itself, but a lack of financial expertise, uncertainty when presenting to investors and insufficient knowledge about available funding programs.
