Thorough preparation is no substitute for a decision made on a case-by-case basis, but it can help you clearly articulate your career goals, support needs, and the expected benefits of coaching.

Berlin, September 17, 2026 - Anyone wishing to apply for subsidized individual coaching with an Activation and Placement Voucher (AVGS) at the Employment Agency or Job Center should be able to specify their support needs as concretely as possible. This is because the decision on funding is based on the individual's current situation and their desired career goal. AVOCONS highlights five key questions that can guide job seekers as they prepare for their counseling session.

Five Questions for Effective Preparation

1. What career goal do you want to achieve?
The more specifically the goal can be described, the clearer the need for support becomes. Instead of a general desire for a fresh start in one's career, it could, for example, involve a transition to a specific industry, a return to a particular line of work, or preparing to become self-employed.

2. What is currently the biggest hurdle?
The reasons for needing support are varied. These may include a lack of career direction, uncertainties in the job application process, a prolonged period of unemployment, or a lack of knowledge about the German job market.

3. Why is individual coaching a viable option?
One-on-one coaching allows for a targeted focus on the individual's career history, existing qualifications, and specific challenges. The key question, therefore, is how this individualized support can contribute to the next career step.

4. Which program aligns with the funding objective?
To qualify for funding through an AVGS, the provider and the program must be appropriately accredited. Furthermore, the coaching content, scope, and delivery method should align with the individual's needs and the requirements specified in the issued voucher.

5. What outcome should the coaching achieve?
Possible goals range from clearer career positioning and a realistic job application strategy to optimized application materials and preparation for sustainable self-employment. The expected benefits should be linked as specifically as possible to the individual's future career path.

The decision is made on a case-by-case basis

Even careful preparation does not guarantee eligibility for an AVGS. Whether a voucher is issued and a specific program is approved is decided by the responsible placement or integration specialist based on the individual's personal situation and the respective funding objective.

"The key is not to gather as many arguments as possible in favor of coaching. Rather, job seekers should be able to describe specifically what career goal they are pursuing, where they currently need support, and what changes the coaching is intended to bring about," says Andr? Voltz, Managing Director of AVOCONS GmbH.

To prepare for the interview, an individualized proposal from an accredited training provider can also be helpful. It gives the responsible specialist a concrete overview of the planned measure, its content, and scope. The final decision on funding remains with the Employment Agency or the Job Center.

Through AVGS-Coaching.de, interested individuals can learn about various forms of one-on-one coaching and request a personalized, non-binding quote. Subsidized coaching begins only after the necessary approval has been granted by the responsible funding agency.
