Press release from: ethority GmbH & Co. KG

According to the latest studies (AGOF), more than 50% of the German internet users look for travel destinations via the internet. The ethority study about travel trends 2008 within the German web illustrates which holiday destination and which types of leave are frequently discussed in weblogs and online communities.

In the course of the ethority study “Travel Trends 2008“, about 6500 user opinions have been evaluated. Concerning German users, the results show that their own home country is the top destination within Europe. In regard to non-European countries, Asia and the US are among the top destinations. Within the category types of leaves the family vacation is the most discussed type.

The ethority study demonstrates the relevance of web 2.0 for the tourism industry. Online communities and weblogs are increasingly used by the consumers as a significant source of information. Recommendations, which are exchanged via these channels, exert direct influence on the booking decisions. The times in which one could solely consult friends and family about specific destinations of travel have long since passed. Nowadays, by means of the user generated channels of communication, user opinions concerning the majority of travel destinations can be found instantaneously.

David Nelles, press agent at ethority GmbH & Co KG, evaluates the study results as follows: “The results of this study illustrate the importance for the tourist industry to maintain an active survey of the channels on web 2.0. Thus, travel agencies need to adjust their tools of online marketing to the rapidly increasing number of German internet users.

Being an expert for semantic web analysis and online marketing, ethority GmbH & Co. KG is successfully active on the market for 10 years. ethority’s expertise ranges from market research to online marketing and the analysis, initiation and realisation of word of mouth campaigns in Germany.
