At just 20 years old, Elvis Jueterbock has successfully completed his training as a technical product designer at SIP Scootershop - and with a very special background, a good dose of self-drive and a passion for Vespas that goes far beyond the job.

From student to designer

Immediately after graduating from Ignaz-Kögler-Gymnasium in Landsberg, Elvis went straight to SIP Scootershop. He had already done a vacation job in the call center - where his interest in technology was just as noticeable as his commitment. "I then found out from my father that there was an apprenticeship vacancy in product development," he recalls. "And as I was interested in technology and design anyway and was already riding a scooter back then, I immediately applied for the apprenticeship."

Three years later, Elvis can now proudly say that he has completed his apprenticeship. The shortened version, because this apprenticeship normally lasts three and a half years. As a technical product designer, he designs components on the computer, accompanies products from the idea to the first prototypes to the finished series part, creates drawings and data sheets - and checks at the end whether everything fits. "The exciting thing is that you don't just work technically, you can also be creative," explains Elvis. "And at SIP, I had a lot of freedom to come up with my own ideas. Some of the products I designed are now available at SIP Scootershop."

"Product development plays an important role for us," reports Managing Director Ralf Jodl, "because it allows us to realize new ideas, respond to special customer requests or continuously improve existing product lines." SIP Scootershop currently employs four product developers at its headquarters and one in Taiwan.

A special detail about Elvis' training period: his father André, also a product developer and known from many SIP videos, was his trainer. What would be tricky for some, was no problem for the Jueterbocks. "Private is private and work is work - we kept that quite separate," says Elvis matter-of-factly. However, their shared passion for scooters made it easier.

Entry into scooter life

"There was always something to screw in my father's workshop. That's how I grew into it." As a teenager, Elvis was already tinkering with mopeds with his school friend Ruben - later it became scooters. At 16, he saved up his own money to get his A1 driving license and restored an old Vespa PK 50 that had previously belonged to his father. "Unfortunately, it wasn't finished in time for my 16th birthday, but six months later I rode it to Italy with a friend - that was my first big scooter adventure!"

Elvis will probably never forget one experience: his first scooter, which was now a Vespa PK 150, was taken out of service at the 2023 SIP Open Day after he had spent a year painstakingly repairing and rebuilding it following a crash. And on the very day he wanted to proudly present it to the public for the first time. "That was bitter," he says. "But everything is now legal - with registrations, just as I always imagined: Engine, exhaust, handlebars, disc brakes - everything passed TÜV cleanly." In total, it took almost two years before the Vespa was legally back on the road. "But it was worth it," grins Elvis. And yes: "Now it's finally faster than the Yamaha TZR from the Dolomites Tour video from 2022!"

Off to the racetrack

In addition to training and wrenching, Elvis has also thrown himself into scooter racing. He came across the European Scooter Challenge (ESC) - a competition for ambitious riders - at a scooter meeting. "You can test ride a borrowed scooter for free the first time - and then I was already hooked."

Together with his friend Ruben, Elvis rode his first season in the K6 beginner class last year - and immediately won the overall title in four races, spread across France, Germany and the Czech Republic. "I've been at it ever since," says Elvis. "It's a whole new world - exciting, challenging and you get to meet lots of cool people."

In the meantime, he has gained further experience and success in the German Tin Scooter Championship (DBM). He also competed in the legendary SIP cross rally "Matscho Karatscho" in 2024.

As a young mechanic in a scene that is dominated in many places by the "old iron", Elvis stands out. "Most of the riders are older or the children of scooter riders - hardly anyone is completely new. It's also down to the money. Driving license and scooter together - you're quickly up to 7,000 euros. Many people prefer to save up for a big motorcycle or car."

But Elvis remains loyal to the scene. And not just on the racetrack, but also in everyday life - as a mechanic, as a now permanent SIP employee and as someone who carries on the passion for two-strokes and scooters.

"You learn for life - not just for school"

What does he take away from his training? "Definitely much more than just what I learned at school. I was allowed to shoot videos, implement my own projects and got to know a lot of interesting people, as SIP is internationally known and highly respected in the scooter scene. And you simply experience a lot here. There's always action at the SIP Open Day, you deal with customers, riders, colleagues and real 'tuning legends' - it's not textbook training, it's real life."

At the age of 20, Elvis Jueterbock has already experienced more than many scooter fans have in decades: a successfully completed apprenticeship, international racing experience, a decommissioned - and re-registered - dream scooter, and a clear plan to continue shaking up the Vespa world. Whether with a CAD program on the PC or on the asphalt: Elvis does what he loves. And you can tell.
