The story is written by a young Iraq War veteran, Michael Reyes. Over There/Over Here will see its West Coast Premiere at The Relevant Stage. Artistic Director and Stage Director, Ray Buffer states “I am excited about this production, because it is one of the only plays I have found that shows the unique perspective of young people trying to make something more of their lives in the military.”

In the story, Marcus – a young, African American male who has grown up in a tough neighborhood, leaves his girlfriend and young daughter to join the military and escape the drugs and crime in his neighborhood. But when he gets to Iraq, it is as if he never left those impoverished Brooklyn streets. He finds that he is serving side by side with drug dealers and criminals within his own unit. An explosion injures him severely, and when he returns home he must not only determine for himself whether the experience has left him weaker or stronger, but also whether the sacrifice he made for his country was truly worth something.
