Digitization projects in the manufacturing industry eventually reach the point where data communication must be established with the machine tools. NC programs and tool correction data must be transferred to the machines. Many machine control systems are now equipped with network cards and PC operating systems. It therefore stands to reason that these should be integrated into a company's network. However, system incompatibilities and IT security issues pose major challenges for corporate IT. Eliminate security risks of CNC machine tools within an IT network

CNC machine tools can only be equipped with conventional IT security measures, such as virus scanners, to a very limited extent. For this reason, corporate IT departments have called for the operation of separate IT networks on the store floor and the office floor. Data communication between the independent networks should be secured via a firewall.
The new, web-based COSCOM DNC server service enables firewall-secured data communication between the two independent networks. The web service can be easily integrated into the operational COSCOM DNC applications.

Sustainable and secure operation of different PC operating systems on CNC machine tools

Network incompatibilities caused by different PC operating system versions on the controls or non-uniform server operating systems can present an insurmountable communication problem. Experience shows that CNC machine tools have a much longer service life in companies than PCs on the office floor. In addition, software updates are rarely carried out in the machine environment for various reasons.
Regardless of a Microsoft version policy, older communication protocols can still be used with the COSCOM DNC server service. This ensures communication between the store floor and office network for many years without having to worry about restrictions in the office network. Both networks can continue to develop independently of each other.
