For more than 50 years already, the markilux brand has stood for the creation of customised designer awnings. Since 1972, markilux has been considered a driving force for innovation in the industry - initially as a subsidiary of Schmitz-Werke from Emsdetten, northern Germany and as an independent company in the same location since 2018. The motivation behind this is to give awnings and roller blinds for patios, balconies, windows and conservatories a special technological and visual touch. And that certainly goes down well in the market.

Conquering the market with new ideas
"From the very start, we wanted our brand to offer more than just protection from the sun," explains Klaus Wuchner, Director of Sales and Marketing. Even today, markilux products are intended to aspire to more than their classic function and inspire with their design and quality. Furthermore, with high-performance technology, the company wants to provide maximum ease of use. "And it is thanks to this strategy that we have been playing in the top league in the solar protection industry for years. But this only works if you are prepared to continuously rethink products. If you love taking ideas to the market that simply haven't existed in this form before," says Mr Wuchner. He sees the step toward motorised operation as being part of this. Also the use of weather sensors, smart home technology and additional features which provide all-round weather protection and ensure a pleasant atmosphere.

Giving products an exclusive touch
And this is how, in recent years, markilux has regularly added exciting products and features to its range with a great deal of innovative spirit. This also includes the solar protection specialist's design concept in which some external creative minds are involved. This has resulted in a lot of award-winning models which suit all contemporary building styles. To ensure that this is the case, the company has been experimenting with shapes, materials and surface finishes for years. This gives the awnings an exclusive touch and has resulted in a dynamic fabric collection which also comprises water-repellent, flame-retardant and partially transparent special fabrics.

Offering specialist customers added value with innovation
"With this future-orientated mix of intelligent functionality, stylish design and top quality, we have been arousing interest in the specialist community for years - both at a national and international level," explains Peer Cornelssen, Head of International Sales. Because, a good 20 years ago, alongside the German market, the company started to build up a sales network in other European core markets, in Australia and in the USA. Specific marketing, which made the brand increasingly visible, supported the expansion. "In addition, we have also initiated a lot of new things in terms of service over the years. Whether with our showroom concept or the extensive range of service tools that are very useful in the daily business of our specialist partners," explains Mr Cornelssen. This all-in-one package makes the company attractive to partners in Europe and overseas. This creative output offers specialist dealers genuine added value. "Because we are always treading new ground, we can keep our offer exciting. And by pursuing this philosophy, we want to continue to bring our products to the world in the coming years together with committed specialist partners," says Director Klaus Wuchner of his goal for the company.
