Splash out with some colour

Awning specialist markilux offers many fabric designs along with summery fresh colours ranging from delicate to bright.
Colour trends come and go. However, the trend of non-colours seems to be here to stay. The soft cream, grey and anthracite shades have their rightful place in the colour universe. They are discreet, team up well with other things and therefore also go well with bold accent colours. Over time, however, this trend is somewhat monotonous. More colour on awning covers would therefore be a boost for outdoor living says textile designer Annette Busch from markilux.
Awning covers used to be dominated by just a handful of colours, usually in a typical sequence of stripes. And that was also true at markilux. But from the moment the awning specialist was able to define the colours of the polyester yarns for its awning covers itself, a whole new range of options for design and colour diversity was born explains textile designer Annette Busch. This has resulted in a diverse and compact collection of sun protection materials.
Neutral tones have the upper hand
The company also offers a "colour on demand" service with which awning covers can be designed in virtually any colour. However, although their surface area makes them perfect for adding a touch of colour to your home and garden, plain "non-colour tones" such as white, beige, anthracite and above all grey predominate on balconies and patios. "This trend started a good ten years ago with expensive consumer goods such as cars and, after a while, also hit the awning world," explains Ms Busch. Neutral colours were seen as being more lasting which in turn made the products easier to resell - although awnings are not usually products that are resold. Some buyers simply copied their neighbours and also opted for a plain colour. And sometimes, a customer simply didn't get competent advice when it came to finding a cover that would suit their particular needs.
Colour remains an issue for markilux
On the other hand, people have an innate desire to personalise their homes and set themselves apart from other people. "That is why the topic of colour diversity has been a focus for years. And we offer a whole range of vibrant colours such as yellow, orange, red, pink and summery shades of green," explains the textile designer. In this way, the company can always meet special requests and demonstrate the colour expertise it has built up over the years. Furthermore, she sees colour as being important for our lives in general as it has an effect on our well-being. Naturally, light, inconspicuous shades also have a place in the colour universe as they have a calming effect. In some cases, they are chosen to intersperse with strong accent colours.
Let the world be more colourful again
"But it is different, when grey outweighs everything else. They then create a dreary, non-inspiring atmosphere. And yet on the patio and in our gardens, we are looking to create a colourful world that stands out from those dreary, rainy days and gives us energy," says Annette Busch. But recently she has had a feeling that colour is coming back - whether in fashion or in the world of furnishings. "I don't know whether it's just wishful thinking. After all there is so much more to the colour range than just grey," she continues. Her advice when buying an awning is always to visualise the fabric over a large area and think about what is important to you. Which colour makes you feel good. Especially as this also determines how much light can penetrate the interior. Light, pastel colours are a good compromise. "They are neither neutral nor colourless and grey. And they are not gaudy or brash either," explains the specialist. But ultimately everyone has to decide on a colour for their awning themselves. markilux sees itself as a service provider and will always flexibly cater to customer preferences. But the designer herself hopes the world will become a little more colourful and shine more from within. That might also be good for the general mood.
