Church Leaders and School Administrators Must Step In and Put

The Southern Accent is the official weekly student-run newspaper at Southern Adventist University, a church-owned university in Collegedale, Tennessee. Today, The Southern Accent published an article that both celebrated and advertised a "Fight Night" community boxing event. "Fight Night" is a term commonly used to describe worldly events featuring combat sports such as boxing, mixed martial arts (MMA), kickboxing, and others. These events usually feature a series of fights between fighters, often live-streamed on the internet. It is worth noting that combat sports, such as boxing, are typically sponsored and promoted by the big casinos in Las Vegas.

Fight nights can technically be illegal unless these events comply with local laws and regulations. But whatever the legality, it is immoral for any Bible-believing Christian to pay money to see two people punch each other out, let alone advertise these events in media that is officially associated with a Seventh-day Adventist institution. Why are they charging fees for Fight Night? Will it go to charity or to sponsor missions? Or will it pay the fighters?

There must be serious clarifications on the potential ethical and moral implications of Seventh-day Adventist students participating in and/or promoting fighting events. Violent sports are dangerous and promote aggression and harm to others, which is at odds with the values and teachings of Seventh-day Adventism.

Furthermore, supporting a fight night on media affiliated with a Seventh-day Adventist school amounts to openly condoning violence and flies in the face of Jesus and the church's message of peace and nonviolence. It is important for the leadership at Southern Adventist University to carefully consider their values and priorities when deciding whether to take no action or to hold their students accountable and impose consequences for those who openly scorn our values and teachings.

Yes, Seventh-day Adventist universities have a code of conduct that students are expected to follow, and Fight Night and all other associated behaviors related to combat sporting events do not align with the Christian faith. There is a reason why we have biblical Christian values. Students who attend Seventh-day Adventist institutions are expected to uphold those standards. And yes, there are consequences for violating these expectations, both for students and administrators who do nothing.

First, it was dance ministries. Then we had puppet ministries. Recently, we've incorporated clown ministries. Now we have Fight Night ministries. What's next? Happy Hour ministries?

Let Us Stop Avoiding the Real Issues
Let Us Stop Avoiding the Real Issues
As the 2025 General Conference Session convenes, with believers from around the world watching and praying, there is an unmistakable sense of frustration among many of the faithful. While we will be given lectures about returning our tithes and offerings-as outlined in the proposed 2025 Church Manual agenda-we must ask ourselves: is this truly the burning concern on the hearts of God's remnant people at this critical hour in history? The

While walking down the hallway at the America's Center Convention Complex-the site of the 62nd General Conference Session-I saw Ganoune Diop approaching. Knowing how busy church leaders are during these sessions, I asked if he had time to answer just one question. He stopped to look at me, and I asked him directly, "Why don't you preach the Three Angels' Messages? Why do you only preach Jesus?" As he began

Ghostface Horror Character in an Adventist Pulpit
Galatians 5:9 states unequivocally, "A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump," a warning against permitting even minor instances of biblical compromise. In other words, if small negative influences are allowed to spread, they will eventually corrupt an entire movement. On March 17, 2024, Brother Fabio posted a video with the following caption in the Seventh-day Adventist News outlet Baluarte: "This dramatic scene that we are seeing occurred in an Adventist church located
Adventist Health Portland Honors Pride Month
Pride Month has become an international freak show that takes place in June and comes complete with nudity, debauchery, bondage, and sexual decadence-all aimed toward children. Homosexual activists, trans militants, and drag queens openly flaunt their sin, promote it brazenly, and parade it proudly down the main streets of society. Truly, during pride month, the revelers "parade their sin like S@dom." "The look of their faces testify against them. They

Bringing Disrepute to the Seventh-day Adventist Name
Ellen White talks about a class who bring "the name of Seventh-day Adventists into disrepute" (Testimonies, Vol. 2, p. 533). This is used to describe people who do things that harm or defame the Seventh-day Adventist name. It refers to acting in a way that is viewed as inappropriate or contrary to the standards of the name they are supposed to uphold. There are behaviors that ought to cause us
Penang Adventist Hospital Wishes you a Happy Deepavali
The celebration of Deepavali is associated with Lord Krishna, a major Hindu god. During the Deepavali festival, which usually lasts about 5 days, worshipers commemorate Lord Krishna’s victory over the cruel demon known as Narakasura. It is said that this demon oppressed the people until the people prayed to Krishna, who responded by killing Narakasura during a battle. Therefore, Deepavali commemorates Krishna defeating Narakasura. Now we have Penang Adventist Hospital,
