The renewal of the markilux collection has always caused a few surprises over the years in terms of material and patterns. And this year is no different, because the new awning fabric collection "collection one" is more compact and up to date, with even more of an international focus. It combines classic styles with current trends and, furthermore, is more economical in its new, concentrated form. Some selected specialist dealers were given the chance to try out the collection in advance. And now, the collection is looking forward to its official launch in the spring.

To date, markilux has introduced a new collection of awning cover fabrics every five years. And that time has come round again. The start of 2023 will ring in the change to the "collection one" - an exciting mix of classic and new trendy patterns. A durable collection with a reduced scope of patterns, based on the three cover qualities "sunbow", "sunvas" and "sunsilk". The "collection one" is different from everything that went before it as, on the one hand, it is enduring and, on the other, will be constantly in flux.

"suncolours" provide the durable basis
Around 110 timeless, neutral "suncolour" fabrics form the basis. They will remain fairly constant over the years, with the exception of an occasional replacement. Every end consumer should feel at home here. The focus is on plain colours, false plains, textured patterns and classic stripes in seven colour families: in the qualities "sunvas", the well-known high-tech polyester manufactured by a company affiliated to markilux, and "sunbow", a top-quality acrylic fabric made in Europe.

They are all fabrics that have sold well up to now and which are being merged to create a new portfolio. And that means that acrylic is once more part of the collection. Annette Busch, textile designer at markilux, explains: "Technically, yarns have changed an incredible amount over the past few years. Today, both materials have very similar properties as far as appearance, surface finish and weatherproof behaviour are concerned." On the one hand, this strategy, she explains, will allow the company to offer a much larger and more international variety of materials, which in particular will be an advantage for the export markets. And, on the other, having two manufacturers is economically more reliable, as they can better secure the supply chain.

"visutex" offers exclusive, trendy patterns
The classic "suncolours" are to be complemented by 40 mainly new, contemporary "visutex" patterns in the material "sunvas" and the brilliantly luminous "sunsilk", which is only to be employed here. Thus, "visutex" remains an exclusive quality in "collection one", produced, as it is, exclusively for markilux. The special look of the fabrics continues to thrive on its special textures, from elegant pin stripe patterns, from over-dyed mouliné yarns, from luminous stripes with a three-dimensional appearance and classic block stripes in a retro look. And moreover, especially from current trends. "This time, the "visutex" covers were inspired in particular by five colour trends: pastel green, dark blue, light beige as well as an elegant silver and black. These are also our anniversary frame colours. The two together look absolutely fantastic on a patio and in the garden," says a satisfied Annette Busch. This focus on trends is the basis for a "breathing", dynamic collection. Because, in the future, the "visutex" designs are to be replaced or extended on a regular basis or simply as needed with new exciting colours and patterns. This category also includes the "smart art" patterns which will continue to be featured in their very own small sample book. This, she feels, is how to remain flexible in the market and always stay up to date.

Collection form saves resources
Alongside the timeless basic patterns and the special "visutex" creations, "collection one" also consists of the "specials", fabrics which have specific technical properties. These include: "transolair", "perfotex", "perla FR" and, after a temporary stop in production, also "vuscreen". These are available in 59 patterns. "With this compact structure, based on three pillars, we have made our awning cover collection fit for the future. Because, due to the lower number of cover fabrics and the fact that we are no longer stipulating a fixed life cycle, we need fewer resources. This makes the collection more modern and also more efficient. It is thus as long-lasting as it is dynamic and diverse. Furthermore, it fits in only one collection book and one carrying bag. Fabric samples can be added and exchanged. Even the fabric hangers are designed so that the patterns can simply be exchanged by way of press studs.

The concept is progress with a sense of proportion
Developing the collection and finding a suitable supplier of quality acrylic was an intense process. The company scrutinised its own collection as well as the portfolios of other manufacturers. That initially resulted in a "Top 100" selection and ultimately the current range in the steps that followed. "I think the 'collection one' has turned into a fantastic thing. It is easy to handle, is very internationally orientated and continues to illustrate our textile expertise," says Annette Busch. In terms of colour, what the company offers is still also very special, particularly taking aspects such as "visutex" and the service "colour on demand" into consideration. "With this unique collection, we are once again going on the offensive. Because, what we have developed here is clever progress combined with a sense of proportion," says a thoroughly convinced designer.
