Annette Habicht - Her shoes evoke fairy tales and legends

Hessian artist Annette Habicht is associated with her large historic estate, which has been the focus of many television reports. On the grounds of their sprawling estate, in an outbuilding, is also the large studio of the famous painter.
Children, young people and students in the field of art or design can work in a relaxed manner and express themselves creatively in this picturesque atmosphere. Annette Habicht calls this a small miracle, because many of her painting students have been attending her classes in her studio for years.
In late 2020, she discovered a shoe sewing machine in a basement under the large barn on her property.
"It was incredible in what excellent condition I found this sewing machine in a large wooden box," she says. "Every little detail was oiled and working perfectly," she says in conversation. "Suddenly I had the idea to paint a little face on canvas and sew it on a pair of ballerina shoes."

Not everything that ever became history is written down.
What emerged from those humble beginnings in 2020 with an 18th century sewing machine that belonged to her ancestors is nothing short of another great miracle today.
The gratitude and awe of such a miracle can be felt by anyone who holds a pair of Annette Habicht's shoes in their hands. Today, her shoes are made exclusively from historic fabrics and fabric scraps.
"I am always on the lookout for old fabrics," the artist reports. "I've been to a lot of household liquidations.I am often fascinated by the fact that original linens sit untouched in their packaging for years because they were given as a gift for an important occasion at the time."
Annette Habicht's goal is to create comfortable shoes marked by lightness and creativity for special women around the world.
The shoes are hand-painted, embroidered or have applications. Stuffed strawberries or roses sewn from fabric characterize these incomparable beauties. Each of her shoes is a piece of history, every detail reveals snippets of fairy tales and legends.
They are living dreams made of light threads, decorated with the poem of the person wearing these shoes.

It all started with a small store on the Internet
"I started on a whim with a small Etsy store on Google on the Internet," reports Annette Habicht. "I still remember very well that the first woman who ordered a pair of shoes from me was a circus performer from France. I'm still very good friends with Romy today", she says. "Later, I did a whole series of creative photo shoots with each new shoe model to be able to present the shoes in a special way. For this, I was able to get some of my drawing students or female students to model my shoe creations."
Annette Habicht reports, that there were a lot of great creative photo shoots that came out. However, the capacity of her Etsy store was not enough to showcase the shoes as their uniqueness required. After our pandemic past, she was insecure and did not trust herself to incur high monthly costs "So I decided to create a free WIX page for each of my new shoe models. In this way I managed to showcase my shoe collections for free, with the space and size of an entire website, and for each new model. I felt this was revolutionary and brilliant."
In the spring of 2022, Annette Habicht launched her first "LOOKBOOK" with the spring collection "Strawberry." She wrapped three wreaths on top of each other and attached 100 strawberries to them. Growing in popularity year after year
Women all over the world are fascinated by the uniqueness of these shoes and eagerly waiting for each new model. Since the shoes are made of fabric, they fit any foot. The paintings on the shoes are impregnated several times and the shoes are moisture repellant.
Newspaper reports (WHAT WOMAN CREATE, WHERE WOMAN CREATE, DAPHNE´S DIARY etc.) about the art shoes were published in various magazines around the world.
However, not only the special texture of the shoes, but also the respective packaging of the shoes impressively shapes the overall image.
"Again and again I receive messages that the women who bought my shoes keep the packaging in glass showcases", reports Annette Habicht.
The packaging is designed by students who complete their internship with the artist. New ideas are always implemented, such as the use of stucco elements.
From the fabric remnants, which arise during the processing of the shoes, are also created small special works of art. It is created, matching the individual collections, strawberries, flowers or roses, which, provided with a sewn clip, still decorate the person wearing the shoes in addition to the shoes. The clips are attached to jackets, belts or bags.
