As an international rare disease practice, Lazar, Seideman & Smith (www.rare-disease-specialist.net) has been known for quite a while. As of September 1, 2022, the global network of experts has also become a teaching and training affiliate of the Jewish University of Colorado (www.jewish-university.org), the only Messianic Jewish university worldwide. The latter, in order to survive as a tuition-free university during the pandemic, has completely switched to online teaching. Since this also allows access by students from all over the world, study places are currently already completely taken until at least spring of 2025.

The university's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has been upgraded, too. Ethical questions in medicine as well as certain rare diseases, from which some minorities are particularly affected, are dealt with and taught here, as are questions concerning the nature of consciousness in relation to the brain. In this respect, the medical faculty of the Jewish University (JUC) is a very natural and integral part of a faith-based teaching institution.

Because JUC's modest size means that it cannot afford to operate a university hospital, the medical faculty works with external teaching hospitals. Now, through the efforts of Professor Dr. David Seideman, the "Lazar, Seideman & Smith" International Rare Disease Competence Network (www.rare-disease-specialist.net) has also become a full-fledged teaching practice of the Jewish University.

For JUC as well as for Lazar, Seideman & Smith, this means an optimal complement in terms of teaching and the treatment of patients with rare and very rare diseases. "We will use this partnership not so much to pursue research agendas, but to provide our students with much greater access to internships and hands-on learning", head of faculty, Professor Georg Schuster explained.

Professor Dr. David Seideman, a seasoned neurologist and neuroimmunologist, serves both institutions as a bridge in terms of personnel. He teaches at the Jewish University in the "consciousness vs. brain" research field and works as a clinician with Lazar, Seideman & Smith.
