IAAT awarded Dr. David Seideman as "Silent Hero of Medicine"
The internationally active, U.S.-based validation and accreditation organization IAAT (american-academic.org) is going to grant its "Silent Hero of Medicine" award, which is only bestowed every four years, on April 20, 2022. This year, the non-endowed honorary award will honor Dr. David Seideman for his contributions to people with rare diseases, often also called orphan diseases. Dr. Seideman, along with Drs. Marius Lazar, Sophia Makri, Efstathia Papadopoulou, Marianne Kaufmann and Carolina Diamandis, founded the first globally active practice for people with rare neurological diseases.Whether the entire team should be honored was up for discussion by the IAAT. In the end, the jury chose Dr. David Seideman personally because, on top of everything else, he has implemented a system that provides low-income patients without insurance free access to high-tech medicine.
Dr. Seideman is a neurologist, immunologist (skin) and general practitioner with a career that has long been conventional. Born in South America and raised in Germany, he has worked in numerous countries since his undergraduate days. His main focus has been research, though he has never stopped working at the bedside as well. Upon the call of Dr. Marius Lazar (CEO of the Lazar Medical Consortium Group™), who had been collegially associated with him for many years, he was persuaded to join forces with his colleague to establish the rare disease practice "Lazar, Seideman, Smith".
As the first global institution for people with rare neurological diseases as well as immunological diseases of the skin, it was not least Dr. Seideman's extensive network that made it possible to connect with partner practices around the globe. These are necessary for numerous physical examinations, laboratory tests and imaging (MRI, CT, PET, sonography).
Anonymized but notarized letters were available to the jury, as were statements from former colleagues. They all confirm the jury's impression that Dr. David Seideman is indeed a silent hero of medicine who does not make much fuss about his person. Therefore, the vote for him was correspondingly overwhelming 24:1 despite three other candidates. IAAT is pleased that Dr. Seideman has accepted the award.
