markilux equips vineyard in Styria with its "pergola stretch"

Weinschmiede 18 is part of the Strauss vineyard in Gamlitz, around 50 kilometres south of Graz. A good three years ago, the owners converted the historical building into a new guest and wine-tasting location. This year, the outdoor terrace was furnished with a modern shading system from markilux to match its new exterior appearance. The system will make for a more pleasurable stay outdoors for guests, inviting them to linger.

"We completely redesigned the building of what is now the Weinschmiede a few years ago, equipping it with guest rooms and a wellness area. But we made sure the character of the historic building was preserved," explains Bettina Strauss. Together with her husband Gustav, she manages Weinschmiede 18 in Gamlitz in southern Styria. They serve their home-grown wines in the "Buschenschank". Old and new complement one other wonderfully in the wine bar. This concept has now been rounded off with a new solar protection system from manufacturer markilux which shades the good 40 square metres of outdoor terrace that offers stunning views of the surrounding vineyards.

Cosier atmosphere for guests
The Strauss family opted for a large-scale shading system with the "pergola stretch". "For us, this model was definitely the best choice of product because with just two units, the entire terrace can be covered. It extends wonderfully quietly and we can now offer our guests perfect protection from the wind and cold outdoors," explains the restaurateur. With the integrated LED lighting and the in-built infrared heaters, you can sit out on the terrace for much longer. After all, the point is to create an atmosphere, both indoors and out, in which people can taste and enjoy wine, and then perhaps buy a bottle or two to take home with them.

Perfect advice from local specialists
"Being able attend to our guests outdoors is very important to us and we therefore made sure that the weather protection system suited the building and also blended in with our wine-growing area," explains Bettina Strauss. The light cover of the pergola awnings was chosen to suit the façade and the colour of the supporting structure complements the terrace furniture and the earthy tones of the vineyard. The couple is certainly very happy with the choice they made, and particularly appreciated the support they received from the local specialist dealer in the selection of the product. "Everything went perfectly, from the initial consultation right through to installation, so we hardly had any work with the project," says the happy owner of the Weinschmiede.
