markilux produces awnings that last for many years which in turn means that raw materials are used in moderation.

According to the manufacturer, awnings from markilux are made to last a small eternity

markilux has always focused on quality for its awning systems. Every screw, every component consists of a top-quality material because the company wants the systems to work perfectly for years. This distinguishes them from many of today's products, the life cycles of which are getting shorter all the time. The company sees quality as meaning goods should be produced in Germany, in compliance with prescribed standards and under fair working conditions.

"We have been living in a throw-away society for years now. Some products, for example, are even built to have a short life cycle from the outset," says Klaus Wuchner, Director of Sales and Marketing. "We do things differently. We build products so they can be used for a long time, repaired if need be or even retrofitted," he adds.

Paying attention to quality and precision
Michael Gerling, Director of R&D and Production at markilux, explains: "Our awnings are high-tech products which we have perfected down to the last detail over many years. It has always been important to us to use hard-wearing, high-quality materials and precision workmanship," he says. In his opinion, a product should be designed to last for many years. The "German Sustainability Award for Design", which has been presented since 2020, documented this in the "Circular Design Guidelines" by product designer Stefan Dietz. Among other things, a good product should be innovative, be able to be used for a long time, be able to be repaired, be updated and be able to be adapted to changing needs. These are principles that have always applied to markilux products.

Using raw materials and energy in moderation
The company puts a lot of energy into the further development of its awnings. "In our continuous improvement process, we take a close look at every product, whether new to the market or already established. Components and installations are optimised as required, practical functions are added and the technology is refined. And that means that most models are available on the market for a longer period of time," says a satisfied Mr Gerling. In this way, raw materials are used wisely, which protects the environment - totally in compliance with the underlying principle of "lean management", which demands respectful handling of resources for the chain of value creation. This includes, among other things, the use of recycled, low-carbon aluminium for the awning frames. The quality of the material is equivalent to that of primary aluminium, but much less energy is needed in production, resulting in fewer carbon dioxide emissions. "We also look for certified products from other suppliers. Our awning covers, for example, are tested for harmful substances and comply with the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100. At the same time, this means that the materials are produced in a socially and environmentally responsible manner," says Michael Gerling. Moreover, at the end of their useful life, a large part of the awnings can be returned to the raw material cycle.

Fair and responsible production
In addition to high-quality material and the long life cycles of the products, the company sees "Made in Germany" as part of its philosophy. They manufacture exclusively according to high European standards, which also benefits the environment, and under fair working conditions. But that all comes at a price. However, in the long run, end customers benefit from a product that runs smoothly for many years and also has a timeless design. "Quality and responsibility for people and the site have gone hand in hand for 50 years. This is a very modern and relevant claim. Because more and more people are realising that buying short-lived products has fatal consequences for our planet," concludes Klaus Wuchner.

Colour your summer
Colour your summer
Giving awning covers a touch of summer freshness The world around us seems to have been lacking colour for some time now. Wherever you look, nothing but a range of greys and creams. This trend is dominating the awning world, too. And yet awnings have so much more potential, and in terms of colour could even compete with the flower beds. Beige and grey or anthracite are the stars of the residential

However, the trend of non-colours seems to be here to stay. The soft cream, grey and anthracite shades have their rightful place in the colour universe. They are discreet, team up well with other things and therefore also go well with bold accent colours. Over
