EMNID survey spells out several grievances in the infrastructure for e-mobility

A survey among 1,000 questioned persons initiated by GOVECS shows that about two thirds (64 per cent) of the population are dissatisfied with the currently existing network of charging stations. It lacks the necessary infrastructure even in large cities, this is what the study of TNS EMNID purports regarding the question, what role the establishment of a charging infrastructure plays for the spread of electric vehicles. More than one half of all Germans (60 per cent) moreover long for alternatives – such as a backup battery for e-vehicles.
No emissions or disturbing noise, along with minimum operating costs – the advantages of electric vehicles are rather obvious. However, the EMNID survey clearly shows that the majority of Germans notices the shortcomings in terms of infrastructure in that field. Not even one in ten (8 per cent) affirms when asked, whether the current charging infrastructure for electric vehicles suffices in Germany. Particularly the group of those aged 14 to 49 (70 per cent) could only imagine an increased spread of electric vehicles on the streets of Germany if a higher concentration of charging stations is provided. Surprisingly: Even among those living in large cities only one out of three questioned persons is satisfied with the available charging possibilities.

When comparing the total net household incomes there are also differences: People with a monthly income of Euro 2,500 criticize the insufficient number of charging stations considerably more often (74 per cent) than people belonging to lower income groups. Thomas Gruebel, CEO of GOVECS, feels that the results of the survey support his own opinion: “As can be seen from our sales figures of the past few business years, e-mobility in Germany are well under way. The network of charging stations, however, urgently needs to be improved, particularly in sparsely populated regions. As providers of electric scooters we do not have an influence on the further development – but we would like to offer a supplement to this approach.”

The mere improvement of the charging infrastructure alone is not enough in the opinions of 60 per cent of the overall population – they ask for new possibilities, such as an exchangeable battery, which can also be taken home and charged there. The desire for alternative charging options was strongest among surveyed people from rural regions with 72 per cent. As the leading providers of e-mobility GOVECS is working on possibilities for remedying this grievance for quite a while: “The survey underlines that alternatives for charging e-vehicles are urgently needed. Alternatives such as backup batteries clearly meet the spirit of the time“, Gruebel summarizes.
