Climate Star 2007 - Municipal climate protection competition with focus on mobility

Climate Star 2007 - Municipal climate protection competition

Until now registrations from seven European countries - Closing date for applications extended – Application documents as download available

The Climate Alliance is calling all European cities, municipalities and districts to participate at the municipal climate protection competition “Climate Star 2007”. This time mobility is the focus point of the climate protection activities, because traffic is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gas emissions and meanwhile causes approximately 30 percent of the CO2 emissions in Europe. Intelligent and innovative solutions on local level are searched, to create a sustainable mobility and to arrange it tolerably for people and to achieve a contribution to climate protection.

Until now registrations to participate at the Climate Star from seven European countries are on hand. Among them some interesting approaches and measures are sketched, that deal with a agreeable coping of the commuter streams but equally with the mobility of tourists. Not only the public local traffic plays a major role but also the mobility with the bike and on foot.

On wish of many municipalities the closing date for the Climate Star has been extended up to 15 July 2007. Furthermore the eligible cities, municipalities and districts can now download the application documents from the Climate-Star-website directly by themselves. The award ceremony will take place at 23 November 2007 in Baden near Vienna in the course of a major public event, upon invitation of the federal state of Lower Austria.
