Strike Two: a new initiative that makes global agrifood transparent and sustainable

Amsterdam - On September 19 and 20, the first edition of the Strike Two Summit will take place in Amsterdam. This event brings together professionals from agrifood and technology to make the sector future-proof. Strike Two is an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture and 15 other parties including Ahold Delhaize, Unilever, Google, Rabobank, Deloitte, IBM, FAO, Municipality of Amsterdam and also the young farmers in the Netherlands. Strike Two is innovative in its ambition to achieve acceleration at global level, making agrifood sustainable through technology.

Adoption
One of initiators, The Fork, points out there are many suitable new technologies, such as blockchain, AI and IoT, to tackle challenges in the agri-food sector. However, these use of these is still limited. Strike Two is explicitly not a hackathon, it will not deliver new solutions. During this event, the whole agrifood ecosystem is brought into contact with existing, market-ready solutions for defined current challenges. Participants will make innovation roadmaps together to ensure implementation of the solutions of Strike Two. Strike Two is more than a series of events: it is a movement that connects the ecosystem from farmer to consumer on concrete challenges and is open to anyone who wants to build the future now.

Themes
There are 3 core challenges that Strike Two focuses on:
• Consumer trust
• Farm income
• Sustainable chain management
The euro of the consumer is the fastest route to impact. Confidence in what we eat is declining: 1 in 3 world citizens no longer trust their food. Transparency and self-control, supported by technology, are going to help consumers buy what they want. The second theme, farm income, focuses on increasing the innovative power on farm. Chain management must connect supply and demand in a sustainable and circular way.
