Culture Lifestyle and Travel Themed Gravitas Gallery at Banasthali Captivates Thousands of Viewers

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Banasthali which takes inspiration from Pearl Zhu author of best seller Digital Master quote “The gravitas in a leader is like clarity in diamond.” regularly organizes various exhibitions and poster presentations on diverse themes of interest to the current generation. They also celebrate various days of national and international importance round the year. The seeds of the department were sown with the establishment of FM Radio Banasthali 90.4 MHz in 2005 which was the first community radio in the entire state of Rajasthan.

Popularly called RADIO BANASTHALI the programs are broadcast for 12 hours daily which reaches over 50 villages in the neighborhood and focuses on topics of entertainment, education, health, nutrition, environment, agriculture, depicting folk, art, culture rural and community development. In 2008 Certificate program in Radio Broadcasting was introduced followed by Diploma in Audio Engineering in 2009, Diploma in Broadcasting in 2010, Bachelor degree in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2014 and Masters in 2019. Currently the enrollment in the Department which has ten faculty members is over 300 and is headed by dynamic Prof Lokesh Sharma whose experience includes stint with E TV Rajasthan.

On 17 Aug2019 to stimulate creativity, the department organized Gravitas Gallery with focus on Culture, Lifestyle and Travel which is of great interest to present day youth. Students enthusiastically participated and over 50 handmade posters covering the themes came up in the gallery at a short notice. Faculty member Ms Priyadarsini Kiran coordinated the mammoth effort smoothly to complete in time, to budget and specifications. The exhibition drew viewers from all cross sections of the over 16000 girls enrolled at Banasthali spread over 850 acres.

The alumni from Banasthali Department of Journalism and Mass Communication include Ms Tanu Kapoor presently with Times of India (TOI), Ms Srishti Shivam Pandey who is with India First TV Channel and Ms Devyani Vyas who is with First India TV Channel. Students and faculty who visited the Gravitas Gallery left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of an institution which is a shining jewel in the crown among the institutions not only in India today but across the globe.
