Prof Harsh Purohit and Raveena Goel Banasthali Bag Awards at Youth Money Olympiad 2019

While Digital Literacy has been stealing the thunder all over, lately Financial Literacy has started grabbing attention at all levels of the society.

Digital literacy is the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills. Financial literacy is the education and understanding of knowing how money is made, spent, and saved, as well as the skills and ability to use financial resources to make decisions which include how to generate, invest, spend, and save money.

The Youth Money Olympiad (YMO) is India’s largest personal finance initiative aimed at college students. The YMO is conceptualized and executed by Money-Wizards, a senior IIM alumni venture headquartered in Singapore with operations in India. The YMO is conducted in 2 stages. The first stage is the college/university round. This round is conducted from June to April across the nation’s campuses. The top 5% of test takers from each college are invited to take part in the national level finals conducted in the month of May every year. Just like the IPL, the YMO has been a platform for the raw unsung talent (in the field of personal finance) in the country, often found in not so obvious cities and town.

The YMO is administered as a MCQ - Multiple-Choice Question assessment that tests the personal finance basics of the test taker. The YMO is completely online and can be taken across a variety of devices like a laptop or a mobile phone, anytime, anywhere at the test taker’s convenience.

With over 30,000 students participating from 400 plus colleges across the country, the YMO is the largest personal finance Olympiad for college students in the world. Having entered the 6th edition, the YMO has indeed grown from strength to strength over the last several years. Money-Wizards organized an award function to felicitate the winners of YMO 2019 at Crowne Plaza, Chennai on 14-June-2019.

Prof Harsh Purohit from Banasthali bagged the ‘Financial Literacy Thought’ leader award, while Raveena Goel from the same university won the ‘Campus Entrepreneur’ of the year award.
