National Seminar on Emerging Trends in Legal Sphere at Jamnalal Bajaj School of Legal Studies Banasthali

Banasthali Law School started in 2013 with only 120 students and today is a buzzing hub of over 1100 law students. It is one of its kind law department in India established for empowering women in the legal arena and was inaugurated by former Chief Justice R.M. Lodha. One of the three original copies of the Indian Constitution is presently in Banasthali whose founder Shri Hiralal Shastriji was one of the members of the constituent assembly which drafted the constitution.

Be it moots, debates, seminars, MUNs etc. Banasthali Law School has always performed the best wherever it has participated. Banasthali students have been regularly participating in Moot Court Competitions held at various institutions which include Manipal University, ICFAI University, Amity University, Banaras Hindu University, Nirma University and winning laurels in various categories.

Banasthali has established a rich tradition of conducting various National and International Seminars round the year. Law School Banasthali organized a National Seminar on Emerging Trends in Legal Sphere on 07 Apr 0219 with focus on five themes namely Intellectual Property Laws, Business Laws, Energy Laws, Environmental Laws and Criminal Laws. Participants had come from various parts of India which included Ahmadabad, Delhi and Pune.

The grand inauguration for the same took place at Nav Mandir with lamp lighting by dignitaries which included three alumni of the first batch of the Law school. Prof Harsh Purohit Dean gave the welcome address. Alumni from 2005 MBA Ms Saumya Pant from London gave a video talk on how Banasthali made the difference in her career progress over the years. Presently practicing at Indore, Ms Drishti alumnus Banasthali first batch 2013 – 2018 who was a Research Associate for Commemorative session of the International Law Commission at the United Nations Headquarters gave a brilliant talk on Women and the Legal Profession. Ms Prerna and Ms Swapnil also alumni from first batch gave a talk on their experience and had the audience eating out of their hands.

Prof BR Natarajan Head of Chemical Engineering at Banasthali highlighted that the legal issues pertaining to crypto currency, insolvency & bankruptcy, drug pricing, clinical trials would dominate emerging trends in coming years. Reminding the audience that 07 Apr also happened to be World Health Day to commemorate the founding of WHO World Health Organization, Prof Natarajan gave an overview of top seven legal challenges facing physicians and hospitals which included Qui tam cases, HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and telemedicine. Prof Rashmi Singh Rana head of the Law department Banasthali presented the vote of thanks.

For the best papers, the valedictory session witnessed the First Prize going to Aayushi Gupta of Banasthali, Second Prize to Ms. stella Joice of Sir L. A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad, Third Prize to Ginny Rajvanshi Banasthali Vidyapith and Fourth Prize to Harkiran Sehgal, Aditi Yaduvanshi, Sakshi Tripathy & Eaishita of Banasthali Vidyapith and Sudiksha Gupta, BBA LLB 3rd Year, Symbiosis Law School, Noida.

Banasthali students Ms Upasana Singh and Ms Shweta Janghu as convenors indeed played a stellar role not only as Convenors of the National Seminar but also as anchors for inaugural and valedictory session. Ms Ginny Rajvansi final year Banasthali student has always been a regular at anchor front.

It goes without saying that the students and faculty who participated in the Law School National Seminar at Banasthali left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of an institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women’s universities not only in India today but across the globe.
