cab label printers of the current generation are OPC UA-ready.

cab label printers of the current generation are OPC UA-ready.

cab presents solutions for product marking from April 1 to 5, 2019, adapted to requirements and applications (hall 17, booth D68). Using a SQUIX label printer, OPC UA is utilized as a framework for M2M information access. The XENO 1 laser marking system will be displayed at the booth and will also be part of the SAP showcase in hall 7. Within the framework of a digital supply chain, this laser engraves type plates for double-seat valves individually.

On this matter, the cab Software Engineer Hans Löhner says: “In the best case marking is integrated into manufacturing processes or logistics in such a way that clock cycles in production are not affected. For this purpose, systems are demanded that meet the highest user requirements on quality, reliability and safety.” The XENO 1 laser marking system measures only 58 cm in width, 66 cm in height and 70 cm in depth and therefore needs little footprint. Processing the system complies with high industrial standards. The laser source and the control unit are integrated in one safety housing according to laser protection class 1. 20 or 30 Watt pulsed Ytterbium-doped fiber laser sources are in use. Depending from the lens, the markable range starts at 112 x 112 mm to extend to a maximum of 180 x 180 mm. With the help of the motor-driven z-axis and a focus finder the marking plane can be adjusted optimally. Interior LED lighting allows observing the workpiece when the system’s operation door is closed.

Printing and applying

When it comes to printing on labels in thermal transfer or direct thermal modes, cab provides a range of accessories unique on the market. In Hanover, the industrial Hermes and SQUIX printers are provided with modules to automatically apply labels, cutters to separate labels and stackers to collect labels. The MACH 4S front loader is shown in tear-off and peel-off modes.

The A8+ printer dedicates to wide labels up to A4 format, while the XD4T prints double-sided on textile tapes, shrink tubes and continuous materials made of plastics, paper or cardboard. When it comes to printing with two colors in one operation according to the GHS guidelines, XC printers are first choice. Using the example of an EOS printer, trade show visitors will experience how a label printer can be power-supplied from a battery when access to electricity is missing. The MACH1 and MACH2 siblings are the smallest label printers offered by cab. Their printing is quiet and their ease of operation perfectly fits with office use. With the HS and VS label dispensers, it is the requirement that determines whether the labels are provided in horizontal or vertical direction, to be removed ergonomically by hand.

OPC UA communication

The OPC UA interface standard creates the basis for machines and components of different manufacturers interacting in industrial surroundings. OPC UA defines secure transport and the semantic structure of data and allocates a machine-readable description to it. At the cab booth, a SQUIX printer is OPC UA-linked with a weighing system. The values measured by the scale are added to the dynamic data fields of a label. On this occasion, the label printer can function either as an OPC UA server or client.
