Top 8 Resolution Sabotaging Mistakes You Must Avoid!

Press release from: Punch Kettlebell Gym Dover

January 5, 2011, Dover, DE Every year tens of thousands of people pile into the local gyms full of motivation to accomplish their New Year’s Resolution. Local fitness professional Chris Gray explains the sad reality is that most people, in less than 30 days, will have given up on their resolutions. There are many reasons for these common failures and they are different for everyone, however in my experience there are a few that keep coming up every year.
Dover personal trainers reveal “what not to do” when resolving to be fit this year!
Here's how to avoid the 8 most troubling obstacles to your health and fitness commitment:
#1 Obstacle: Procrastination
Taking small steps, every day, towards your goal is mandatory. Your first, and most important small step, is taking action Now!
#2 Obstacle: Expecting miraculous change 'overnight'
This is the lie that so many of the diet and weight loss 'gurus' tell you in order to sell their gimmicks, gadgets, pills and potions. Gray says don't fall for it. With the right guidance from experienced coaches and a structured fitness system backed by proven results, you'll be armed with the blueprint for success.
All that you have to do is get your DAILY VICTORY.
Your daily victory can be something as simple as knocking out a few push ups in the morning, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, going for a long walk or a quick jog, saying "no" to that donut or pastry, going to the gym rather than watching TV...or whatever.
The point is to just get a small victory every day.
Then, with each passing day, you get stronger (physically and emotionally), you gain resolve, become less likely to "self-sabotage" and you get TRACTION.
And that's the name of the game: traction.
Because when you have traction, you gain momentum. And then you're a force of nature...totally unstoppable...and the results come quickly.
Try it...you'll see!
#3 Obstacle: Not having a plan that you are held accountable to.
Gray explains without a plan, you rely only on how you feel each day as motivation to do what's necessary. Inevitably, there will be days when you just don't feel like doing what's necessary. That's okay - and it can easily be overcome if you have the right plan and a coach who will hold you accountable by giving you the support and motivation to stay on track.
#4 Obstacle: Being too 'gung-ho'
Doing too much, too soon, and expecting results overnight is the kiss of death. Your body isn't ready for it; you will make yourself sore or be too restrictive with your eating, resulting in unnecessary pain and suffering that sabotages the best laid plan. Worse, you could potentially injure yourself. This is a biggie, so be sure you have an experienced coach to guide you in the right direction with a structured fitness program which gradually increases in intensity.
#5 Obstacle: Awaiting a love affair with fitness
Most people just aren't fitness fanatics and most people (us included) really enjoy eating. You just won't fall in love with exercise and supportive eating...unless you take very specific steps that are consistently rewarding and reinforce that positive behavior. There's a lot of psychology to improving your health. You need to understand how your mind and emotions work - not just how your body works - if you want to get real results you will have to invest some time in developing both the mind and body.
#6 Obstacle: Not making your health a priority
"I just don't have time!" is the most common 'objection' fitness pro Chris Gray hears from folks who want to improve their health, but won't commit to it. The reality is that the quality of your life is dictated almost entirely by your HEALTH. As your health goes, so goes the quality of your day-to-day experiences. Being sick, being overweight, having eroded self-esteem, nagging and bothersome health conditions, high blood pressure, etc., etc. - these things take away, dramatically, from your quality of life. And they can shorten your life, too. Invest your time with an experienced coach who can show you how fitness and supportive nutrition can become as simple and routine for you as brushing your teeth, making your fitness and health a new lifestyle.
#7 Obstacle: Not understanding how your body works
Not having the knowledge to put a complete program together is one of the biggest problems most people face when trying to accomplish their goals.
There is so much false information out there, and unfortunately many poor fitness programs with inexperienced coaching. Because of this the average person, 9 out of 10 times, will do the wrong thing resulting in poor results, wasted time, or worse, injury.
You will be pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to fit exercise into your day, particularly when you see how you can make daily progression, daily improvements. But your biggest "A-HA!" moment will come when you learn about nutrition. Making very simple adjustments to your diet will have a tremendous, metabolism-accelerating effect. Knowing how your body metabolizes fuel changes everything for you.
#8 Obstacle: Not 'spicing it up' with variety
When you see the range of exercises you can do, how simple, fun and engaging they can be, and how quickly they can bring about results, you will understand that variety is the spice of life. The same goes for your nutrition. A good coach will show you how to eat almost everything you love (overly restrictive diets do NOT work), and still get the results you want. Gray says there is a very profound 'secret' to supportive nutrition that you need to know.
Personal trainers from Punch Gym in Dover encourage clients to use these 8 obstacles as a guide of what “not to do” when planning your New Year,s Resolution this year. Invest in a coach or workout buddy who will help you avoid these common pitfalls and make 2011 your best year ever.
