mitcaps migrates WAN infrastructure of Messer in record time

After only 62 days project migration Messer works successfully on a new wide area network infrastructure.

The German Virtual Network Operator (VNO) mitcaps GmbH has achieved a new record in integrating and optimizing customer WAN-networks. The customer Messer Information Services (MIS) asked mitcaps to migrate 93 connections, 78 hardware-CPE’s in worldwide 54 Messer Group sites in less than 70 days. Mission accomplished was confirmed in only 62 days. In this context, the service company for information technology in the Messer Group and mitcaps achieved the core objectives of this strategic important project under strict compliance to defined timings and budgets.

Together with MIS, mitcaps implemented the worldwide VPN with bandwidths up to 100 Mbit/s including backup systems to ensure a mission critical site availability. “It sounds unusual but MIS had a quiet and relaxing time during the WAN migration.“ says Karlheinz Wetscher, Head of Corporate IT Infrastructure, “A well planned project management enabled a seamless migration of the new infrastructure.” The homogeneous VPN solution, which is based on MPLS, IP Secure and Internet, ensures a secure and performing connection to the data center even in countries with less developed infrastructure. As VNO, mitcaps assembles a network infrastructure out of the best local and global carriers. VNOs like mitcaps will continue to sit between the carriers and enterprises, understanding customer needs and assisting enterprises in selecting, integrating, implementing and managing technologies that suit customers’ business requirements.

In the current second phase mitcaps will migrate national sites and new services like Voice and video over IP to the new infrastructure. The objective of the migration to the WAN specialists is to create a secure and widely consolidated network environment centrally and proactively managed by mitcaps NOC. The entire carrier handling including contract management and negotiations, incident management and billing management is taken over by mitcaps. The Single Point of contact for Messer but also for the carriers. As single point of contact the VNO supports MIS in all questions around the network, network security and convergent solutions.

„We found a partner in mitcaps who shares our understanding of service and who creates solutions for us - not only proactively but, before anything, quickly.“ comments Jürgen Zöllner, Managing Director of MIS and responsible for IT in the Messer Group. “Thank to the external network management we don’t have to juggle with carriers and contracts anymore. Furthermore, we can save costs compared to a personnel-intensive internal solution.“ adds Rainer Hoffart, Managing Director of MIS and responsible for IT in the Messer Eutectic Castolin Group.

„As a result of an excellent project team on both sides, we achieved this record in implementation together with MIS.“ resumes Wilfried Röttgers, General Manager and Founder of mitcaps, „The close and transparent collaboration and the personal interaction and involvement of different levels of management have been the keys to success.”
