Press release from: Dataxis

In these recessionary times, European movie goers seem to be more and more attracted by theaters, as 2009 appeared to be a very good, if not exceptional, year for Cinema in many European countries.

In Greece, movie admissions recorded a spectacular 30% rise, reaching 13.5 million at the end of 2009 according to Cineuropa.

On the other hand, French movies admissions reached in 2009 their highest level since 3 decades. According to the National Cinema Center (CNC), admissions grew 5.7% over the last year to 200.85 million in 2009, which is the highest record attendance since 1982.

In the UK, figures from the Cinema Exhibitors’ Association (CEA) show that 2009 was the best for British cinemas since 2002, with 173,461,335 admissions, a 5.6% increase over 2008. Moreover, Box office revenue for UK and Ireland crossed the £1bln milestone for the first time ever, reaching £1,054,351,651 at the end of 2009.

Worldwide movie admissions and revenues for 2009 will soon be available as part of the ‘Entertainment’ market research service of Dataxis Intelligence.
