IMAFF Awards 2024: Celebrating the Power of Cinema at Numax Cinema Entebbe

Kampala, Uganda - The International Media Arts Film Festival Awards (IMAFF) proudly celebrates the successful conclusion of its 2024 edition, held on December 14 at Numax Cinema in Entebbe. With a focus on showcasing groundbreaking talent from Uganda and across the African continent, IMAFF continues to affirm its position as one of the most important cultural events on the African film calendar.

The 2024 IMAFF Awards recognized the best in African cinema, honoring filmmakers, performers, and creatives whose works have made a profound impact on the global stage. The event brought together emerging voices, independent filmmakers, and film enthusiasts in a vibrant display of artistic excellence and storytelling.

Among the night's big winners was "The Silent Echo", which took home the prestigious Best Film award. Directed by visionary Ugandan filmmaker Kato Mubiru, the film captivated audiences with its poignant exploration of social issues in Uganda. The Best Director Award was presented to Mary Akinyi for her evocative drama "Between the Lines", which garnered widespread acclaim for its powerful performances and compelling narrative.

In addition to these accolades, "Winds of Change", a stunning documentary by filmmaker Tunde Olawale, received the Best Cinematography Award for its breathtaking visuals that captured the untold stories of East Africa's rural communities. The Best Performance Award was given to actress Amina Nalwadda for her raw and moving portrayal of a young woman navigating complex relationships in "Silent Rebellion".

IMAFF's 2024 edition also included engaging panel discussions and workshops, where filmmakers and industry professionals discussed the challenges and opportunities within the African film industry. Topics ranged from the future of digital distribution in Africa to the importance of supporting indigenous narratives in film, all aimed at fostering a more inclusive and diverse film ecosystem across the continent.
