Scintillating Start to 28th Edition of Intramural Sports at Banasthali
A highly cherished quote by all sports persons across the globe is by none other than all time great boxer Muhammad Ali “Champions are not made in Gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, and a vision. They have to have last -minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, and they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.”The main objective of intramural sports meet is to create an atmosphere that encourages individuals to develop life-long involvement in recreational activities in order to enhance the quality of life for the Banasthali community by educating and encouraging participation in activities that promote healthy lifestyles, social interactions, and leadership skills. Intramural Sports offers the students an opportunity to participate in their favorite sport on a competitive or recreational level.
At Banasthali, intramural activities consist of all the sport and fitness activities carried on inside the campus at Vidual Maidan all round the year.. The morning fitness programme held every day morning includes Yoga asanas, Martial Arts, Conditioning and Fitness exercises, and Aerobics. The evening programme which includes match practice for various games like Basketball, Volleyball, Athletics, Hockey, Football, Tennis, Martial Arts, Kho - Kho, Kabaddi, Handball, Netball, Softball, Archery, Cricket & Swimming (Seasonal) prepares the students for intramural as well as extramural competitions. Inter-faculty / Inter house competitions are few of the important events in the intramural programme. With 16000 students, at Banasthali which is world’s largest fully residential women’s university, intramural sports is not a weeklong or fortnight activity but is a yearlong activity.
For the year 2018 -2019, Banasthali Intramural Sports Meet inauguration was scheduled on 29 July 2018. Banasthali Band played the ceremonial welcome tune on arrival of the Chief Guest Prof Chitra Purohit President Banasthali who hoisted the flag and declared the meet open to a thundering round of applause. Shri Ghanshyam Matariya from Department of Physical Education welcomed the audience.
The march-past by Ajanta House with theme National Flowers, Nalanda House with theme National Vegetables, Sanchi House with Theme National Fruits, Takshila House with theme National animals, Vikramshila House with theme National Birds had non stop cheering from the audience. The panel of judges which included Prof CK Jha from Computer science, Prof Saral Kumar Gupta from Physics and Prof BR Natarajan from Chemical Engineering indeed had a tough time to choose the best among the best.
The Karate Display, the sword fighting display, Rope Malkhamb had the entire audience spell bound and then came the Riders on the Storm on Horses and stole the hearts of one and all. Vikramshila House bagged third position and Sanchi House the second position. The honours for the first position was shared by Nalanda House and Takshila House.
The show has just begun and it is indeed a long long way for the valedictory function to arrive.
