Flying has been an inseparable part of Banasthali’s broadbased learning programme since 1962. Banasthali started its flying activities with 3 aircrafts and training has been an uninterrupted activity. Govt. of India, Civil Aviation Department has granted the approval for Flying training activity.

A private licenced airfield of 50,191,418 sq. meters, dedicated only for the training purpose, facilitates traffic less exercise in air which is a rare availability. The runway length of 3600 ft. and elevation of 1010 ft. are adequate for exercising. Coincidentally it lies in close proximity of Jaipur airfield (25 miles). The University owns a hangar which is 9,000 sq. ft., which can accomodate more than a dozen aircrafts. It has got all latest precision tools and equipments and the organization is approved by the DGCA. 18 March 2018, Banasthali Vidyapith commenced its two-day UGC Sponsored Indian Colloquium on Aviation Technology and Operations (ICAO 18) with a great aplomb and enthusiasm. The ceremony was inaugurated by welcoming the guests and inviting them on the stage for lighting the lamp. Professor Siddharth Shastri, President of Banasthali Vidyapith delivered his welcome address in which he welcomed delegates, participants and guests. He stated the fact that Banasthali Vidyapith is a conglomeration of modernity and tradition. He also articulated that nothing with regards to the advancement is ever missed out in the academic or professional fronts. Further, he traced the genesis of Banasthali and he pronounced the fact that both Banasthali Vidyapith and Aviation Club have similar and unique genesis. Furthermore, he also underlined some of the key topics which were to be discussed in the colloquium ranging from design and operation of aircrafts all kinds to the complex system-of-systems connectivity which encourage smooth operations in the present and future context.

Professor Aditya Shastri, Vice chancellor, Banasthali Vidyapith and Professor Ina Shastri, Pro-vice chancellor, Banasthali Vidyapith, expressed their best wishes and they also encouraged delegates, participants and guests to continue striving for their intellectual, academic and professional enrichment. Professor Seema Verma, Dean, School of Aviation, described a complete journey of Aviation at Banasthali. She underlined the entire journey of women aviators in Banasthali. With pride, she recapitulated the entire history with the picture of the first airstrep that had Jawaharlal Nehru as its guest in 1958.

A panel discussion on “Women in Aviation- way to take off” started with dignitaries like Air Marshal Padma Bandhopadhyay, Ms. Meenakshi Dua (Air India), Capt. Harpreet Singh (President, IWPA), Capt. Ramya Kirti Gupta (Air India), Dr. Ibrahim Shaik (UAE), Dr. Dewakar Goyal (Airport Authority of India), and Dr. Baba Yerra (UAE). This panel was moderated by Dr. Chilka Sharma, Banasthali Vidyapith.

The subsequent session started with a Book Launch titled “The Lady in Blue” followed by the first Expert Lecture of the colloquium by Air Marshal Padma Bandhopahyay on “Aviation Medicine”. The post lunch session resumed with the second expert lecture by Capt. Ramya Kirti Gupta on “Women in Aviation: Avenues and Challenges and Human Factors in CRM, from a Commercial Pilot’s Viewpoint.” Then Dr. Ibrahim Shaik presented the third Expert Lecture on “Competences required for Aviation Industry for Future as Human and Service Factor.” The first day of the colloquium concluded with the Fourth Expert Lecture by Dr. Dewakar Goyal on “National Aviation Policy”. The day was intellectually enriching, motivating and informative. First day ended with a nice dinner of students, staff and guests of Aviation. Day two had a talk by Dr. Baba Yerra on “UAV” followed by poster presentation by students of Banasthali. Colloquium ended with a valedictory session & prize distribution.

The students and faculty who participated in Indian Colloquium on Aviation Technology and Operations ICAO 2018 at Banasthali indeed left with beaming faces and pride that they were part of an institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women’s universities not only in India today but across the globe. It is no wonder that Pandit Hiralal Shastri founded Banasthali has been in national and international media attention recently for getting the Four Star Ranking in Quacquarelli Symonds - QS Stars Rated for Excellence and Diamond status under QS I.Gauge Indian University Rating.
